I have several members in my family who have cancer, my grandmother had it 4 times before she died, and i didnt want to know about how im addicted or not, I want to know why every non-smoker or ex-smoker feels the need to tell me all the hazzards and thier personal stories. Yes its my choice to smoke, I understand if you don't want me to smoke around you, but do you need to pull the addiction is bad for you card? And smoking has benefits like mood enhancing, weight control and that damn good taste. So if your answering thanx for your opinion but i could do without the same lecture 20 times. And thanx fellow smokers for getting what im talking about, not you that *want to quite*

Just a sexiest thing to keep women from being equal to men is all. Just trying a assure women stay 2nd class citizens is all it is.
It's perpetrated by the fundamentalist Christians and Muslims. And the slimmy politicans make the most of it to raise taxes with being seen as raising taxes.
You ever think about this: Not one peep was ever said about smoking and healty or anything else as long as it was mostly men smoking. The only women who smoked were the bar flies and prostitutes.
It wasn't until women started smoking in mass that they started pushing antismoking legislation.
Also a sneaky way to raise taxes without raising taxes. Ever notice how evertime you start seeing all the antismoking ads on TV etc. a new tax is added to tobacco products.
Standard mouthing off the politicians do is we are raising the tax on a pack of cigarettes $1.00 a pack to hopefully get you to stop smoking. THE LYING S.O.B.'s. They are raising taxes with out being seen as raising taxes.
This way they can say they did not raise taxes while they were in office when running for reelection. again the LYING S.O.B.'s.
Think of the tax money the government will lose if all you smokers stopped smoking tomorrow.
I'd almost be willing to bet inside of six months there will be all kinds of government funded studies out telling how good smoking is for you and everybody needs to start back smoking.

I am a somker. I have smoked for 10 years long. Even i have tried my best to quit it, they made no sense. There are three kinds of situation that i have a strong willing to smoke:
1> after mile
2> when go tolite
3> when feel angry,disappoinment,annoyed...
So sometimes i think smoking is and addiction. One case is if you can live 3 years long without smoking, it means you have given it up. My concern is whether all the smoker can be this. If so it means smoking is not an addiction, otherwise it is an addiction for some people or some case.

You're not addicted, but many people have a physiological and psychological adiction to smoking that's hard to beat. We all know that medical research and statistics prove that smoking is seriously detrimental to smokers' health and the health of those in close proximity to smokers.
Beer in excess is just as bad.
I don't get the "We'll all get fatter" bit.
By the way, I drink and smoke. So I wasn't putting you down, just answering the question.

It sounds like you are mildly addicted. I don't understand that term, I am sort of an extreme kind of person. I smoke probably a pack a day, and I wish I could quit. I think it would be easier for someone like you to quit. I have tried and I just can't do it. I can't stand people who think you can just quit with no problems.

Because it IS an addiction; nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known. But people's susceptibility to any addictive substance varies. If you want to play Russian roulette with two chambers loaded, by all means continue to smoke; the odds are only one in three that smoking will kill you. I attended a memorial service not long ago for someone who smoked himself to death; he was there -- but died soon afterward. It was not a pleasant way to go.

The way I look at it is some people will always be against anything, especially booze and smoking, Usually people that could use a good stiff drink and a smoke to lighten up! Those anti-smoking commercials are just proof to my point

You may not be addicted. But that doesn't mean it's not addictive.
The smoking laws are out there to protect those of us who are not stupid and choose NOT to inhale smoke into our lungs. We have the right not to breathe your cigarette smoke. Since too many smoker don't recognize MY right to live without their smoke, the laws have to be in place.

Sorry honey, but you ARE addicted. You say you smoke because you want to, but you get cranky without your midday smoke. Thats addiction.
You say you can go for weeks without it but when you light up again, thats your addiction getting the better of you.
I'm a smoker, have been for a long time and I understand people trying to get me to quit. Smoking costs the health system an enormous amount of money and death by smoking causes your family & friends more pain than you'll ever know. When my children look at me and say " do you want to die mummy, cause you smoke" breaks my heart, but I am addicted and weak. Realise that and you'll be closer to quitting your addiction than you are now.

Actually beer doesn't exactly help the waistline... But smoking is indeed addictive. Perhaps you don't smoke very much, and are not addicted. More power to you.
People are dead set on getting us to quit because they think it's their job and the governments job to save us from ourselves.
Second hand smoke is the usual logic in their arguments, but since we can't smoke at work, in restaurants, or even in bars here in NY, they likely have more harm done breathing in fumes near running cars than they do second hand smoke.
