Find out what her favorite thing is - like Teddy Bears, or whatever and use that as your theme. You could even have it a costume party if she likes to dress up. My granddaughter wanted a High Tea dressup party for her 12th birthday party. I made the cookies, sandwiches, etc., her mother made the cake, her other grandmother did the dishes, and her aunt had dress-up costumes that all the kids put on (she had picked them up from Goodwill - fancy shoes, boas, princess halloween costumes, etc. They had velcro on the back so it fit any size - the only stipulation was that they had to take off the costumes before they did anything with food). She had a blast and we took lots of pictures. Even her 4 yr old brother dressed up with the boas!!

Why not a Luau?
Luaus are cheap, and absolutely fun!
You can buy plastic martini cups and fill them up with sprite/coke. Then, stick an umbrella toothpick in it. How cute is that?
For food, you can buy some french bread, cut them down the middle and then into little sandwich sized portions. Then, have ham, lettuce, tomatoes, and other sandwich ingrediants available on a table. The kids would be able to make their own sandwiches. Neat, huh?
As for decorations, you can decorate the house with rubber ducks and palm tree stuff. At my local walmart, they have an aisle with luau-related things. Pink or green table clothes look really cool, too. Give out some leis (those colorful hawaiian neckclaces) as party favors for a simply adorable touch!
For games, you can have the kids go to the pool. If you live in a cold area, that might not be such a good idea, but there's always the pools at the recreational park! If you're able to, the pool is the best for a luau party, trust me. If not, you can play twister (by far the BEST party game ever!), have kareoke, take the kids to a park, or have an at home movie.

If a luau thing doesn't suite you, perhaps a sleepover?
Have all the kids bring their favorite pillows/blankets and pjs.
For food, you can order pizza and buy tons of popcorn/candy! Way to stick to tradition! Must not forget smores!
For drinks, you can have root beer floats (CAUTION: Will make a mess and attract bugs!), milkshakes, sodas, or milk! (with cookies, of course.)
Decorations can be anything, really. It's best not to decorate too much, or the little ones wouldn't feel at home. I suggest just moving the furniture a bit, so expensive vases and stuff are out of the way. Also, you should put a large, fuzzy rug in the middle of your living room, in front of the tv. The girls can sleep on it, lay on it, anything! Don't forget the comfy sofa!
The games they can play are seriously unlimited. They can watch a movie (scary movies are best), paint eachothers nails, do eachothers makeup, kareoke, play games (in the toy aisle at any superstore, you can find tons of sleepover games like twister, fib finder, etc), make up new dance moves, or just gossip the whole night long!

You should ask her what kind of food she likes. What interests does she have? Is she a ' mature ' 12, or a 'younger '12? Does she want a mixer or a girls only party? Will this be a home party or will it be at a hall or someplace else. Find out this information from her, and proceed from there. Maybe you both could look at the party ideas at this site to see if she likes one of them.

Well if her bday is sometime this month, then make it Halloween-themed. Have everyone come over in costumes, make sure to decorate the house too. You could go to the dollar store and get party bags and cheap toys and candy and give them out. Have a best costume contest, bob for apples, play twister and things like that. For food, I'd say order pizza. You could also make Halloween cookies.
