Nothing, except that its a sign you have been coughing too much lately. You've strained the muscles of the chest and abdomen, that's all. Control the cough, and the soreness will disappear.

It really sounds as though you may have bronchitis. It can hurt really badly to breathe--and when you cough it can feel as though you'll choke before you ever stop. I had it once--and found it so difficult to breathe--my 17 year old son wanted to call 9-1-1, honestly! I went to Physician and he did a chest x-ray, listened to lungs--etc....Put me on (can't remember the name of Rx) AND he prescribed an oral inhaler--to open up bronchial tubes. It really helped. I also steamed my face over sink with a towel over my head--with the water running very very hot. I also believe that the (really if you think about it) Vick's Chest Rub is an OLD form of NEW homeopathic medicine....It does work--either by the Menthol OR the Eucalyptus. Try the one that you put in shower as well. But please see a doctor or PA---asap. Good luck--I hope I could help you. The cause of HOW you got it is impossible for me to guess at. God Bless and Good Luck--- Drink lots of clear fluids --and avoid dairy products--as they tend to produce more mucus which ultimately needs to get "coughed out".

nothing, probably. Coughing uses a lot of muscles, including the ones in the abdomen. Gosh, when I have had pneumonia or bronchitis my stomach, chest and even my ribs have ached for weeks! Try to relax and see if it doesn't improve in a few days.

you should get yourself checked out if you've had it for a few days. try 'splinting' which is applying pressure to your abdomen with a pillow while coughing
