It is for asking questions regarding vegetarian and vegan food. That is why it is in the food and drink section.
Not that I care.

Well, ideally, it's supposed to be for people asking questions about a veg*an diet. The thing is, veganism is really a lifestyle, while vegetarianism is just a diet. I guess YA put it in Food & Drink because most of the issues revolve around food. Or they see it primarily as a food issue.
I don't think YA meant for it to be used for promotion of the V&V diet/lifestyle, but I suspect we veg*ans will encourage anyone considering veg*anism to stop eating meat, and many of us will give them the information they need to make that decision. It's like this: a legitimate questioner (and not a troll) has a question about whatever. Those of us who have an opinion or information will provide it.
I'm sure in the other categories, such as News&Events and Politics, people give THEIR opinions, right? And you don't think it's for promoting any particular lifestyle, do you?

Like most sections of Y!A it is supposed to be for people who want to know things to ask, and for people who have knowledge to share. That's the idea anyway.
If I, as a vegan, want to know a good key lime pie recipe or the best place to eat in Charlotte, this is where I might ask. Also, a non-vegetarian who wants to know possible benefits/side effects/motivations surrounding a veg lifestyle, this is where they might ask. Again, that is how it should be, anyway.

It should be about diets as it is in the food and drink. However, since V & V can be considered a lifetsyle then I think that it is appropriate to ask questions about that here to. Since, there isn't a separate category set up int the Lifestyle section for V & V, then the vast majority of people interested in V & V would not them. The same thing happens in the alcoholic drink section all the time. You always have people questioning your morality if you like to drink, ect, ect, ect.
Good Question though! I will give you a star! :)

It is supposed to be for the sharing of information about the DIET, its in the FOOD and DRINK section.
In the other food sections do they discuss the morals of a meaty diet ? No.

It is for the discussion of issues. Yahoo answers isn't meant to promote anything.

According to what viewpoint? Yahoo or the people writing the questions and answers? Or just you?
You did not specify that.

It is for neither. It is for asking questions about V and V. And then answering them.
