I am a new Lacto-Vegetarian, but my mom will not accept me for who I am. She goes out and buys me meat and eggs and cookies and everything that has any bit of animal in it, and tries to get me to eat it. Since I have just changed into the Veg way of life, I crave meat VERY badly, and she isn't helping. What can I do to make her understand I don't want to eat meat due to my beliefs that it is cruel...?

I don't eat the meat, but it hurts my feelings that she goes out and expects me to eat it after I have explained to her I'll just throw it away.

that was exactly my mums reaction, only she is a VERY brash person and alot of the times got so fustrated with me she'd resort to aggression and yell at me for ages and ages. hopefully your mum isnt like mine.
i just held my own and no matter how many dinners i threw out because she slipped meat in them i never gave in and fell to temptation. it was hard because i used to be such a meat lover i would scrape the frypan down to the teflon after frying bacon in it, thats how much i loved it.
read some books and get all the information you can on vegetarianism. the information varies so its better to get a wider range. that way you can show your mother that it isnt a phase and that you've been responsible and read up on the "risks" (scoff) such as lack of protein(soy and nuts duh) and you know some vegetarian recipes to get you started.
my mum was actually surprised at all the research i'd done and now shes over it and the other day she actually bought me some soy sausages. i nearly died with shock.
really random but chopped up onions in vinegar and soy sauce is SO GOOD! *drool* very tangy and strong flavour.
hope i helped =]

If you are young enough to live at home - she believes she is helping you to make a better choice and eat "normally". You should have your Dr talk to her about the health benefits of a lacto-vegetarian lifestyle and how if you follow it correctly you can have all the same benefits of a meat eaters diet. Regular health care will tell you if you are developing any deficiencies (the most common is B) and there are sub-lingual drops to get you back on track. Show her VegWeb.com so she can become more comfortable with your choice and help the whole family by buying more whole grains, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, legumes and nuts. Good Luck!

1. If you're self-harming because of that, there's other underlying issues that you aren't aware of. Seek help. 2. Do some research. She makes you eat meat because she thinks it's healthy. If you disagree, demonstrate to her the nutrients you get from meat, and the alternative sources that you get from plant sources. As it is right now, you're acting like a picky eater, not someone who cares about their diet. If you demonstrate that you made a conscious decision, she's more apt to not force you. 3. Open a dialogue with your mother. Seriously, she's not your enemy, she wants what best for you. Communication is important.

sit down with your mom and explain to her that this is what you've chosen to do with your diet. it may help to prepare some facts or statistics to persuede her... i actually wrote my parents an essay but you don't have to do that :) . she probably is worried that you won't get the proper nutrition and is trying to look out for you, so try to see it from her point of view. also, about craving meat.... it gets easier as long as you don't cave in. even four years after not eating meat, i still crave it sometimes but then i go eat a veggie burger instead - yummey and totally guilt-free! good luck!

As long as you are living under her roof, you have to abide by the rules. Some jerks recommend unrestricted rebellion against parental authority. That's because they don't have to live with the chaos, stress, and sadness of ruptured relationships. It's plain stupid advice from stupid people who are emotionally immature and unhealthy...
I can understand your dilemma. As suggested maybe the family doctor or another member of the family can help you come with some kind of compromise with your mother. Maybe setttle on certain "white" meats only once in awhile.
When you are old enough to move out, then you can do what you want. But for now, the chaos and stress on the family is truly not worth it. But try to come to some kind of compromise.

explain it to her. tell her all the benefits of being a vegetarian, and explain that you can be healthy. most importantly, make sure you do the whole vegetarian thing correctly and keep your meals balenced. im an experienced vegetarian, and let me reassure you...the cravings stop.

Refuse to eat anything that you don't want to.
No one can force you to eat anything.
If you are vegetarian than you will not eat meat, no matter how much your mother nags or threatens you. Everytime you eat what she wants, you have proven to her that vegetarianism is just some childish nonsense that you picked up from one of your friends and you will be over this phase soon.

Try to sit down with your mom and explain your beliefs.
If she still won't sway... I'm assuming your under 18, and your parents are still paying for your rent, food, bills, clothes, etc. And since it's their money, you have to abide by their rules.
Sorry kiddo.

Your mother should respect your wishes. Period. Get some books on the matter and ask her to read them. I am sorry to be the one to have to tell you this but if she does not respect your wishes and forces something down your throat that you dont want, call child services and have her arrested. That'l teach her. Good luck, and stay drug free.

If you don't want to eat what your mom buys then I guess you should buy your own food.
