The following is copied from the web site for the American Dietetic Association and it's Canadian counterpart:
It is the position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Approximately 2.5% of adults in the United States and 4% of adults in Canada follow vegetarian diets. A vegetarian diet is defined as one that does not include meat, fish or fowl.
If you want to make up your own definition just to annoy real vegetarians, there is little or nothing I can do about it.
I'm going to tell people I'm a cowboy and an astronaut.

It's normal for people who aren't vegetarians. Vegetarians don't eat animals.
I know a few people that do not consume any meat except for fish, but they are not vegetarians, they are piscivores/pescatarian.
If you want to become a vegetarian, that's great. Just cut out the fish and you're a vegetarian. If you want to continue eating fish, that's great too, but please stop telling people that you are a vegetarian because most people honestly don't know any better and will think vegetarians eat fish.

It is common
But sorry, you are NOT a vegetarian.. Fish is meat.. it is a dead animal you are eating (hint.. if it's not a plant or mineral it's an animal)
Please don't add to the growing confusion by calling yourself a vegetarian. Say "the only meat I eat is fish" or "I'm a pescetarian"
Please do us the favor of not adding to the confusion, just because it's "Cool" to be vegetarian.

yes. Here are the types the way that they are defined by the Institute of Food Tech. Sounds like you're a pesco-veggie... very technical.
The semi-vegetarian eats dairy products, eggs, chicken, and fish. This type eats everything except the flesh and organs of mammals.
The pesco-vegetarian eats dairy products, eggs, and fish, but no other animal flesh.
The lacto-ovo-vegetarian eats dairy products and eggs, but no animal flesh. This is the most common type of vegetarian in the United States.
The lacto-vegetarian eats dairy products, but neither eggs nor animal flesh.
The ovo-vegetarian avoids dairy products and animal flesh, but will eat eggs.
The vegan is the strictest of all vegetarian groups. Vegans eat no animal products of any kind. Many processed foods and prepared food products contain ingredients of animal origin, such as gelatin and whey. Vegans avoid such foods.

No. Vegetarians don't eat animals.
Are you John L too?
shelly--I love watching the hypocrisy of YOU telling somebody that they are or aren't something when you chastise me for the same thing.
J.R.-----"If you want to continue eating fish, that's great too, but please stop telling people that you are a vegetarian because most people honestly don't know any better and will think vegetarians eat fish."----it's amazing how people who complain about my message here are doing the same exact thing.

yes but no... technically, you are considered a vegetarian, but people like me (i'm vegan) wouldn't really consider you a real one.. just don't eat fish, it's only 1 more thing you can't eat.. just one
