A lot of them are Normal Rockwell style plates. I am pretty sure they are all china. I know they will need to be handwashed. I love the look of putting them together with other types of dishware for place settings, but I am worried that they will have harmful chemicals (lead, etc) in them. I have tried to look up the answer, but it seems not a lot of people do this!

Does anybody have any experience??

What if you placed them as a charger with a clear glass plate to eat off of on top of the rockwell plate?(just to be safe)

You may need to check for lead. Most decorative dishware was made to be displayed and not to have food consumed from them. Many will openly state this on the back of the plates, and some will even state that this plate should NOT be used for dining.

If you cannot determine if they have lead problems why not just use them as starters - place them on your table then place a smaller dinner plate to use for service on top. It will give you the effect you are looking for without worrying about lead content.

Typically, if they are food safe they will say it on the bottom of the plate...likewise, if they are not for use with food it should say on the bottom as well. Personally, I wouldn't take a chance with it. Not only that, the finish may not stand up to heat and moisture....no chance it

They aren't practical for food service. I wouldn't use them.
