all that sugar you've had in your life isnt going to cause diabetes...too much sugar equals diabetes is a myth. what the sugar will do though is eventually make you overweight if you continue to eat a lot of it. being overweight increases the chances of developing type 2.

To help decrease the chance of developing type 2, eat fewer carbs. 15 grams equals 1 carb. cut back on pop...one of those 20oz bottles has 5 carbs in it....thats enough for 1 meal.

also keep your weight at a healthy weight by exercising. Remember that diet and exercise will only decrease the chance of type 2. diet + exercise doesnt necessarily mean no type 2 diabetes.

type 1 diabetes isnt preventable. no diet or exercise is going to prevent type 1.

Trans Fats causes Diabetes Type 2 Be sure to eat plenty or tradional fats in your diet like butter, olive oil, coconut oil and lard. The real problem is that recommendation to avoid saturated fats almost invariably result in people consuming more trans fats. There is no question but that the trans fats have been shown to have a detrimental effect on the incidence and treatment of type 2 diabetes. The saturated fats on the other hand, have no effect when appropriate comparisons are made. Very good studies indicate that trans fats interfere with insulin receptors and therefore with insulin resistance. The saturated fats do not. The recommendation regarding dietary saturated fats intake versus trans fats intake for the past number of years have been very confusing to the public, and judging from the articles, also confusing to the researches. Trans fats are mistaken by many of the health professionals fro saturated fats although they are not similar in their effects on the human body, just similar in the manner of stability in the baking or cooking realm. Type 2 diabetes is a new disease, one that has now reached epidemic proportions. Type 2 diabetes did not exist 100 years ago when our diets were very rich in saturated fats. Type 2 diabetes appeared when trans fats came into the diet, and has become epidemic as people are eating more and more foods containing trans fats. And since we know that trans fat interfere with insulin receptors in the cells, it is clear that the blame lies with new industrial fats, not traditional saturated fats. Mary G. Enig, PhD

There are two basic ways on how to prevent diabetics, these are: (1) daily exercise and (2) eat diet food.

To prevent diabetics, exercise daily atleast 30 to 60 minutes a day, it can simply means walking for 30 to 60 minutes, it will not just prevent diabetes, but also the occurence of obesity.

Second, eat a balanced diet, meaning, add vegetables and fruits in your diet. A balanced diet meal doesn't mean you will omit rice or bread, actually, you need rice, or bread, or other foods rich in carbohydrates the most. Avoid foods high in fat like chocolates, avocados, mayonaise and the like, but still, you can eat pork or chicken.

Tip: Foods that "baked" are low in fats like baked macaroni...

You are right to be concerned as most of this diabetic stuff is caused by lifestyle.

Eat "diet" food and drinks
get to know how much sugar is in anything so you can choose the lesser.

Learn to drink normal liquids like water rather than soft drinks and fancy cordial tasting alcohol drinks

Declare war on sugar and good luck.

The most important change you can make would be to give up regular sodas, and reduce all other sources of High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Other things you should do is make sure you stay active, eat fewer refined carbs (white bread, candy, etc.) and maintain a healthy weight.

Its not realistic to say you can cut all these things out of your diet, but if you chose less refined carbs, and eat more fresh fruit and vegetables in place of them you are much better off.
