The answer is yes. Are you taking 250mg or 500mg? Clarithromycin is often prescribed to patients who are allergic to other antibiotics such as Penicillin. This antibiotic should do the job for you. If you do not feel better within a few days, I suggest you return to your doctor. I'm not absolutely sure but I believe the Z- pack is more expensive than Clarithromycin. Regardless, it should kill the bacteria as long as you remember to completely finish the therapy. Good luck to you and I hope you get better soon.

Clarithyromycin is indeed an acceptable choice in treating URI's , however if a sputum specimen was sent to the lab for culture and sensitivity testing, the doc probably prescribed it based on the fact that it would treat the bacteria causing it. It is also a great choice if you happen to be sensitive to the run-of-the-mill penicillin family of antibiotic treatments.

It can be. Many infections respond to Clarithromycin - but where I work it would not be the first line choice of treatment.
