Any time you reuse something, you are recycling. If you use a plastic bag from the grocery as a trash bag, you are recycling it. You can also take it to a recycling center for someone to use the plastic for another product. When you buy a used car or a cell phone you are recycling. Just because it is not hard to resell a car does not make it less green. By the way, not buying or using a cell phone is a green thing. Anytime we minimize our impact on the plant, we are doing "green".

yes, as with our recycling plants for mobile phones in Australia, they do not resell the parts even though plenty of them are good. THey only reuse parts that are valuable even though many parts of the phone are still good to be reused eg. case, screen, keypad, charger etc. etc. but they dont sell it again as a policy. So it is more green to sell your old phones to someone who will use it even if you get nothing for it, than to recycle it.....
You are saving on the energy and materials needed to create a phone from new and to import it in.
Also you are saving energy needed to recycle it into a new product if the technology loses value.
This takes demand off the consumer market.
So I recommend buying used cell phones in general as there are so many around and so many get thrown out and not even recycled or resold for parts.
You just have to stay on top of the technology as the mobile market moves very fast.

Buying A used cell phone, to use yourself instead of purchasing a new one would be considered green yes. However, buying many used cell phones would not be. Buy only what you need. Buying second hand is greener than buying new.

Absolutely. You are giving a 2nd life to the cell phone rather than buying a new product.
