I don't think it's a good food to recommend... it's just clumps of pure fat. There are other sources of calcium and protein that aren't made of animal pus.

I would not recommend it. Some vegetarians take it to the next level, Vegan... If you don't know if the person is Veggi or Vegan you may insult them or end up looking like a fool..... Vegans have a tendency to be a bit more emotional about their diet than veggis. As it is directly connected to the fight against animal cruelty and slaughter farm regulation. (I have some MAJOR vegan friends, and they get a little testy when you challenge their diet)

I would not recommend cheese to someone. If they like it, they are already eating it - it is one of the foods that you grow up eating because it is "kid-taste-bud-friendly". So they won't need a recommendation to this "diet staple". In addition, it is full of sat. fat, hormones (unless truly organic) and clogs your bowls - which can lead to many health problems down the road. Also, the things you could gain by eating cheese can be gained by other foods as well.

Also, many veggie/vegans have choosen this diet after careful consideration or through their parents. In these cases, they won't need recommendations. They will most likely have all the info they need - or they will buy cook books. Also, why would a veggi or vegan ask a non veggi/vegan for food recommendations?

(side note: I am not saying that a meat, veggi, or vegan diet is better than any other. I am not saying that cheese is bad because of a vegan belief.... I'm just stating facts and slight opinions........ To each his own!!!! )

It isn't really. People recommend cheese probably because they're lazy and maybe a little brainwashed.

Dairy is not a good source of calcium, really. Dairy products tend to be high in fat and have hormones and antibiotics. Because of their high protein content, there is actually a net calcium LOSS from consuming dairy.

it's an excellent source of protein. Meat is a protein, since vegs don't eat meat other sources of protein are needed. soy and peanut butter are other good sources of non-meat protein.
