It depends on the individual person.

Some people can have several outbreaks in a year, where others only have one. Some people can even go years without having an outbreak. I've personally had genital herpes for 6+ years and I've been outbreak free for 2+ years.

Stress and food and the main triggers for outbreaks. If a person has a lot of stress in their life then they may have more outbreaks compared to someone else.

Take care!

The first outbreak is generally the worst, and some people never experience a second outbreak. Other people, however, can experience outbreaks as long as 40 years after the initial outbreak.
Genital herpes is different for each person. The signs and symptoms may recur for years. Some people experience numerous episodes each year. For many people, however, the outbreaks are less frequent as time passes. Various factors may trigger outbreaks, including:
* Stress
* Menstruation
* Immune system suppression, from medications such as steroids or chemotherapy, or due to infections, such as HIV/AIDS
* Illness
* Surgery
* Friction, such as that caused by vigorous sexual intercourse
* Fatigue
In some cases, the infection can be active and contagious even when lesions aren't present.

I have a friend that has genital herpies and she told me that the first year is when you have the most outbreaks, and that after that they don't come around as often. But you can still spread even if you are not having an outbreak.

Some people never have an outbreak, or only have one, and with medication, it can control your outbreaks and you may never have them again. but on average without medication your likely to have around five outbreaks a year. there are alot of things that can trigger them but they were already mentioned in your other answers.

I have done alot on research on this for personal reasons. This site provides lots of faqs, myth breakers and a topical that works much better than Valtrex and dries up the sores almost instantly. http://www.choraphor.com/?scart_affiliate_id-21
