me and my father are argueing about this. he says juice is a food and im saying its not food but a beverage (sort of more like water), i know theres a reason why they invented the word JUICE but dictionarys dont help. he says that he consideres any water with stuff (minerals, chemical, sugar, food dye, etc) in it food, so i ask him does he consider fiji water food or water, and he says water but even "purified" fiji water has substances in them. what is the official description of juice food or water? humans need two main things to survive, food and water, they cant just survive on one. u cant survive on juice and water. u need water any steak (for example, of course im over exagerating). he also says do we consider lettuce food? we said yeah but it isnt on the scale of what were argueing because lettuce is not able to be digested. so it sort of cant even be considered cuz its useless. tell me what you think about this? dont be sarcastic please

On a casual day to day basis, I'd just call juice a beverage.
But technically, if you had to choose between classifying it as food or water, juice would be a kind of "food", since food is a much broader term that water.

Scientifically, water is just defined as the compound H20 (dihydrogen monoxide). Yes, it is essential for life on Earth, but it actually doesn't supply energy. If you don't believe me, find some bottled water and read how many calories it has. Zero!

Part of the definition of food is that it can be used by organisms to produce energy. Juice is actually a combination of sugar (carbohydrates) and water. It provides energy (quite a bit actually!) so it is a food. Check the nutrition label on any juice bottle if you don't believe me.
(On a side note, if you're trying to slim down, start by drinking water instead of juice or soda.)

As for the mineral water debate, I'll let you in on a secret: water you find in nature (in rivers, or springs) all contain minerals! If you don't consider spring water "water", I don't know what else to tell ya. True "pure" water is from human distillation. (called "distilled water")

Oh, and lettuce IS food, and IS partly digestible. Otherwise your salad would look exactly the same "coming out". ;)
You can check out nutritiondata.com to check how many calories a head of lettuce usually contains. And much more!

Hope that helped,
Cheers!

Water is a chemical compound. Juice contains water.

Whether juice is a food or a beverage doesn't matter to me, so I will move on.

depends on what juice
juice is etheir a mixutre of artificle tastes made by chemicals and combound sugars with water therefore it would be food, food is known as a energy source
juice is an energy source but is man made, artifically made
or
it could be home-made, which is just squeezed fruit or veggies squished up in a blender

Juice is not water. Juice is not food. Juice is just juice. (But juice is, of course, comprised mostly of water.)
