I sure hope not. :( Those poor, animals. How would you feel if you were minding your own business then all of a sudden, a large plastic square smushed your insides to a wall. I'm very disappointed if any of you have ever done something so terrible and cruel.

"I do not feel sorry for the wasps."
As I don't feel sorry for cows for releasing large amounts of methane, as I don't feel sorry for chickens because I got pecked by one as a child and cried for a good two hours.

"Surely you don't think spiders or flies or wasps are endangered?"

Just as chickens and cows aren't endangered :)

Sure, I've accidentally stepped on a few ants..
It's not something I'm proud of?
Though I don't think they died. But I did in fact say Sorry. [:
One time, My friend smacked a spider, And I made him say sorry to it. And so he did. [: !

I try my best not to harm anything that poses a threat to me, individually. Sure, Flies are 'Dangerous'. I mean Jeez, Keep your freaking windows closed. [:
I just catch them with a fish net and set them outside.

They have a right to live, Just as I do. And It wouldn't be fair for me to end the life of one who has not yet had a chance to live...

And to the person who said that flies / insects are "NOT ALIVE"
Mkay, So, My friend's grandmother has an illness where she can't remember.. Does that mean she is not alive? :l

Honestly. Just because a Goldfish may not remember passed 3 SECONDS (Not 2), Does not mean that they are not alive. If it breathes, Bleeds, Moves Consciously, And eats, It Lives.
I despise ignorance.. v_v

I try not to kill anything but sometimes I kill flies if I can't get them to go outside. They carry disease; because of that I feel it may be necessary to kill them.

I will kill roaches for the same reason; and I don't even try to put them out of the house because I'm reasonably certain they will come right back in.

I will kill mosquitoes, fleas and ticks--they are also known to spread disease.

I don't kill wasps, bees, spiders, moths, etc. They are all pretty easy to catch or guide out of my house without killing them and I don't have any problem with any of them. I have never seen a poisonous spider in my home; and I don't have allergy to bee or wasp stings.

If I do have to kill something I follow my Hindu wife's example and say a little prayer.

I kill flies because they carry germs, I don't kill spiders or wasps.

Edit: lol No I don't think spiders and wasps are endangered, I just prefer to not kill things and spiders are beneficial insects, don't know about wasps being useful...I'm sure they serve a purpose. Anyway, I don't like killing anything unless it's some type of germ/disease carrying vermin or insect.

Hmmm... next time you see a black widow, do you plan to ask it to live with you? What about the poor people who will die if they don't kill insects that cause serious injury and illness? What happens to them in your grand scheme? Surely you don't think spiders or flies or wasps are endangered?

Actually, I don't step on spiders, swat flies or break wasp nests. I don't kill anything. If there is an insect in my house I catch it and let it go outside.

Nice try.

Although I think your posting of this question was silly as any of its type is bound to insight heated criticism, I must say that I try my best not to harm any creature, whether it be an insect or other seemingly small part of the environment. When I find spiders in my house, yes I do try my best to bring them outside, especially if they're in my bathtub. (The poor spiders, they sometimes slide in because it's slippery and then can't get out.) I'll even try to let any flies out of my house if I can, and I won't swat them. Life is precious, and I don't believe any life is insignificant enough to be wasted. Although there is only so much we can do, it shouldn't hurt to try our best in order to protect this world around us, as well as everything in it.

I have never swatted a spider or any other beneficial organism. I admit I have swatted quite a few flies but this because flies are dangerous. So are mosquitoes. If a grizzly was attacking me *and* I could not escape, you bet I would shoot it. Cows and pigs are not attacking you.
When I see bugs in my house (barring flies/mosquitos), I try to trap it in a Ziploc box and release it outside.

OK, insects aren't really alive. goldfish have a two second memory. an insect's memory is most likely even less. they aren't endangered, flies carry disease, wasps and bees pose a threat to my peaceful existence (i am allergic) and spiders could also kill me. ants and cockroaches will get inside my house and i will have to call a pest control guy. i don't go out of my way to kill something that poses no threat to me (ex. if there is a cobweb in the woods, i will do my best to go around, anthill to the side of a hiking path, will go around, but if there is a beehive on my front door, it poses a threat to me. they could kill me. and so i kill them.)

JAZYLADY:

i didn't say goldfish aren't really alive. i said bugs aren't. my grandmother is also senile, but this doesn't mean she isn't really alive. she has a lack of oxygen to her brain, which is something wrong. i don't believe in euthanasia, as you seem to be implying with that comparison, because she used to be in better health doesn't mean i don't think she is really alive. again i say: if they pose a threat to my peaceful existence, i will kill them. if i see a wasp on the railing outside of my house, i will not kill it, i will use another door. if there is a nest on my door, i will knock it down. i won't be overly cruel. and if there is a wasp inside my house, i will shoo it away. also, we are dealing with 1 second in the goldfish excuse. it is taking me at least one thousand seconds to write this text. and it might be more or less depending on the goldfish, and the types of tests used with the goldfish. 2 and 3 seconds aren't that much different. i read two, so someone got two seconds in their average data, and you got three seconds, which someone else probably got in their average data. someone with a different opinion as you isn't necesarilly ignorant or stupid, as you implied. i got all the same information as you did (except, clearly, the goldfish thing), and i came to a different conclusion than you did (much like my omnivore friends did with vegetarianism.) so i guess we agree to disagree. (dictionary definition of ignorance: is the state of not knowing. Ignorance occurs when those who can benefit from knowledge are unwilling or unable to find or assimilate the knowledge. The flip side of ignorance is having knowledge and not having any way of sharing that knowledge.) i consider myself open-minded, but what you are saying is ridiculous. if you were attacked by killer bees, would you not kill them if you could? i would. i also cringe when i see a five year old stomp on a grasshopper, or pull a butterfly's wings off.

You mean on purpose ? No, at least not as a conscious adult.

By accident ? Yes, I have and being a vegan it is not something I enjoy.

I think there's many ways of dealing with "pest" and bugs and unless they become a danger to my health, I don't think it's necessary to dispose of them in such cruel ways.

In nature every little creature has a purpose, selfishly ignoring this seems rather morbid to me.
