Sure they are useful sometimes but are we really that feeble that we can't do ANYTHING without them? Do we really need them absolutely everywhere?

I hiked about 6 miles into a National Park once, going pretty much directly away from the road.

Right now we need them. Hopefully we'll be using them less and less, although it's difficult to see how we can have passenger airplanes without them, at least for a long time.
