HPV can be passed from a mother to her baby during birth if the mother has genital warts at the time of delivery.

HPV is a DIRECT skin to skin contact disease. When the baby comes through the birth canal during birth it can come into contact with the genital warts and can contract HPV. A baby that is exposed to HPV very rarely develops warts in the throat or voice box.

If the mother had genital warts at the time of delivery a C-section can be preformed to prevent the baby from contracting the virus. If the mother is NOT having an outbreak of genital warts then it is perfectly fine to have a normal vaginal birth.

Of course it is always important to tell your doctor if you have a STD or think you have one when you become pregnant. But, since you were diagnosed after your child was born and you were unaware you have the virus then this really can't apply to you. If you do become pregnant again though, it's a good idea you let your doctor know you have HPV.

Take care!

i had HPV while i was pregnant. its a cervical virus that can develop into other things. there are over 1000 different kinds of HPV. some can cause warts and even cancer. i had stage 3 pre-cancer from HPV. they did surgeries and managed to keep it under control. long story short, i have a happy healthy 2 year old son and they didnt treat the HPV until after i had him. if u need to know anything else i.m. me anytime. good luck.

I'm confused. Did you or did you not have HPV when you were pregnant?

If you DID contract it before/during the pregnancy, the baby couldn't have contracted it in utero (due to the placental barrier) but it's very likely to have been transmitted to him/her during childbirth. The risk of transmission is decreased greatly with a C-section delivery.

Yes, it can, and with disastrous results, too.
HPV can settle in the trachea and larynx (voice box), nose and eyes during a vaginal delivery. If it had happened, you'd know it by now, so you can relax. When you decide to have another baby, discuss the risks with your doctor.

Well they say new borns can get it in there eyes and have infections but I was told all the bad cells come out at the time out birth so it goes dormant in side of you untill you get prego again but no you cannot pass it to your baby...
