regular daily exercise, follow a diabetic diet, and take medications as prescribed by your doctor. If he is allowing his sugars to get that high, then he is not taking responsibility for his disease process. He cannot drink alcohol, he cannot drink soda pop, he needs to limit juices. He needs to eat a balanced diet with simple carbohydrates being off the list. He, and you, should see a nutritionist or a diabetic educator. He obviously needs it because he isn't controlling his disease, and you need it if you are going to marry him, because his diet will likely fall to you in that situation.

Your finance should see an endocrinologist specializing in diabetes. Proper blood sugar control is very important, otherwise, he is at risk for damaging his organs, coma if too high or too low, etc. As RN suggested, follow an exercise program to keep weight within normal range, take all prescribed medicines as they were prescribed, test blood sugar levels often, stay away from sweets and starcy foods. Stay with very lean meats and vegetables.
I am diabetic and feel the best thing your fiance can do for himself is to have a physician who specializes in diabetes to treat him and make sure he is on the proper medications.

2) Cut out all sweets and foods containing sugars (read labels before buying anything)
3) Cut out meat - cutting meat will lower weight and cholosterol, corollaries to controlling blood sugar
4) Eat foods that are low on the glycemic index - go to amazon.com and type in 'Glycemic Index' and peruse the books that come up, for something suitable to buy and read
5) Eat lots of vegetables and only those fruits that are low on the Glycemic Index - e.g. papayas and berries, but not bananas and pineapples
6) Eat lots of beans and lentils - they will give you high quality protein and are low on the G.I.

Stop drinking all types od soda's, tea, and anything everything else. From now on, it's H20. The kidney's are going to be the first thing that fail if diabetes goes unchecked. And you thing just having diabetes sucks. Wait until dialysis is needed 3x a week. That really sux.

he keeps going like that he will end up in the hospital in a coma or worse. he is not staying on his diet. he needs to take this serious. if he wants to stay around
