Please don't tell me is impossible because i am not lying. Its been 3 years since i smoke and since i started i promised my self to smoke only 2 cigarettes at month. A doctor told me that i was not at risk of illnesses related to smoking. I basicaly smoke in a year what a heavy smoker smokes in a day. What do you think, im i at risk of cancer or other illnesses because of cigarettes? Oh and yeah i could quit anytime but i enjoy those 5 minutes of relaxing buzz cigarettes give to occasionally smokers.

Honestly, a person who drives through moderate traffic on a daily basis will inhale much more carbon monoxide than a couple of smokes can provide. That being said, the question here is whether or not you can stick with your two-per-month limit. It's a slippery slope, and by your own allusion, I take it that at one time you were a much heavier smoker than you are now. Take that into consideration. If you can stick with it, long-term, then I see no real harm being done.

I don't care if you smoke ONE cigarette a month. You are damaging your lungs. Do you know that people who smoke and quit can develop emphysema or lung cancer years AFTER they quit?

I used to smoke too. I quit almost two years ago. I didn't listen to people when they told me to quit. I didn't realize I was giving up my life for "THOSE 5 MINUTES OF RELAXING BUZZ". Literally giving up my life.

I have emphysema and I am on oxygen 24/7 and take many medications daily. I cannot work any longer. I cannot take a walk even with the oxygen. Some days I can't get out of bed because I cannot breathe. I am only 61 years old.

BUT, I sure enjoyed those cigarettes. Give me a thought the next time you light up and you enjoy that 5 minutes of relaxing buzz.

I am shocked and saddened at the number of people who state their "statistics" regarding your chances of getting cancer or whatever from smoking.

The facts remain that smoking causes cancer, as does second-hand smoke, as do the chemicals emanating from that lingering "smoker" smell.

The reason that smoking two cigarettes a month probably won't harm you is because the second you stop smoking a cigarette your lungs begin to repair themselves and heal the damage. The time between cigarettes in your case is great enough to allow for near-maximal healing.

While smoking two cigarettes a month is certainly not the worst thing you can do, a better option would be to quit entirely.

Smoking not only causes cancer of the mouth, tongue, throat, trachea, and lungs, but also causes emphysema, and worsens asthma or bronchitis. It is also a massive pollutant, especially for those who are sensitive to the smoke coming from your cigarette.

Certain people have a genetic predisposition to cancer (p53 gene), and even the smallest amount of smoking could trigger yours.

Well considering I had a Doctor actually tell me I wasn't addicted to cigerattes if I only smoke a 1/2 pack - pack a day. He never saw me a go nuts having a nicotin fit or crying for three days straight when I tried to quit. needless to say i don't trust doctors in regards to what they say isn't too much. OH and I still smoke just can't give it up yet.

Well I hope the doctor you saw wouldn't lead you astray.

If you keep up with it, and your doctor is right then like he said you're probably at a substancially lesser risk of getting smoking related illnesses.

At the same time, it isn't impossible for someone to never put a cigarette to their mouth and still get an illness due to second hand smoke.

Have you kept that promise to yourself?

Not that bad at this stage But it usually gets worse I went from 1 or 2 per day to 5 packs a day The more you smoke, the harder it is to quit The longer you smoke the longer it takes for partial healing

All I have to say is that I watched my Uncle die from lung cancer and I've grown up watching my Grandfather battle Emphysema. If your body is has a weakness then any exposure to chemicals like that can still cause health problems. I don't care if you smoke one cigarette a year, it isn't worth the damage that it could cause!

I think it's dumb. You're running the risk of getting hooked again. It happened just like that to my mom. She'd quit, and decided to have just one, which led to more, and eventually she was back smoking and couldn't quit.

Stay away from cigarettes. They're deadly and addictive.

You are more at risk of being killed by a tragic accident then you are from smoking. I think it's awesome that you can limit your smoking to two cigs a month! Great job! I wish I had as much will power as you! Go ahead and puff those two cigs and be proud of yourself for taking the steps to quit and keeping your promise!! Thumbs up to you! Take care! :)

Smoking any amount of cigarettes is unhealthy, you're just getting less at a time. You're still getting the toxins, just at a slower rate.
