Harrass them about it. I did for years after being fobbed off and it finally worked. It's your right. They just don't like sending people there as it costs the NHS money, but that's what it's for - to fix you.

If she refuses to allow you to see a specialist, you can call your insurance company and see if they will let you go without her referral. If you are truly concerned, and express that to your doc, she shouldn't have a problem letting you. Honestly, unless she works for your insurance company, why would she care? I would also rethink what you said about her being a good doctor. If she won't adequately address your concerns about your health, she's a horrible doctor. I am appalled that you on here having to ask this question.
I was in a somewhat similar situation where my doctor was a jerk and wouldn't allow me to go to a specialist for my heart. I was having palpitations and it was really really scary. However, whenever he listened to it, (with a steth) he couldn't hear anything. Apparently that meant that I didn't go to med school and so know nothing of my own body. I insisted and told him I was truly concerned/afraid. He relented, i went and eventually found out I did have an issue that they were able to fix.
I definitely advise you to push. Oh and btw, I never saw that doc again because my trust in him was gone that I practically had to beg him.

I would say look for one on your own that is willing to see you without a referral....we had this problem this summer with my younger sister. She was not feeling well and was taken to the emergency room several times for nausea, headaches, etc....we asked several times for an MRI or to be referred to a neurologist and they never saw it necessary....they said it was just a sinus infection....finally my mother found a neurologist willing to see her without a referral.....he ended up being really concerned and gave a prescription for an MRI and demanded it be done immediately.....guess what happened next? A tumor the size of 2 fists were found in my 22 year old sister's brain.....YOU HAVE TO BE PROACTIVE when it comes to YOUR body and YOUR HEALTH!!!
Good Luck!

Hi. Sorry you are having problems with your GP. Is there another Doctor in the practice you can see?
You need to calmly explain to the Doctor why you feel the need to see the specialist you are asking for. It may be the GP dosnt feel you are asking for the correct specialist.
You could complain to the Practice Manager and they will look into it for you.

I agree with your complaint, but for what complaint/s you have that you were denied of referral? If their are inform the local authorities, and have your doctor changed.
But I will suggest that you can politely have the matter resolved.
OK.

It depends on your problem, you could ask for a second opinion by another doctor.
Or pay for a private session with the specialist.
Good Luck
