how much energy / carbon pollution will we have saved the earth ?

Don't waste your time trying to calculate these things so precisely, Learn how much energy things consume, perhaps with the help of an "Electrisave", put a jumper on, educate yourself enough so that you can make informed choices, but there is no need for more, and do what you feel is right.

That's the only sustainable way forward.

If you believe that carbon pollution is the cause of environmental problems, then you should find ways to reduce the amount of energy you consume. There are certainly things that can be done to reduce consumption. TVs are not a necessity. You could dry your clothes on a clothes line. (Some neighborhoods/communities have ordinances prohibiting it. Check first.) Central heating is one I would reconsider unless you live in an area where it never gets cold. Central heat is usually more efficient than other forms of heating such as space heaters. You could reduce usage by closing off unused rooms and shutting the ducts to those rooms.

Another thing would be to not use a dishwasher and hand wash dishes using minimum amounts of water.

You should be aware of the real effect before starting the process. First, the amount of energy you save has an insignificant effect on the global amount. It will take millions of households doing these activities to make an impact. The upside is that you will personally save money.

Not much, since you will need an alternative for heating I notice everyone says ok to less TV but why not computers? Since it stays on all the time mostly wouldn't you think it would save you money if you didn't use it,have it?Not very popular I am sure.I think our individual level of comfort will suffer greatly no matter what we do in the end because the Fraze global warming can find a way to be taxed but climate change can not.So its not real just more money for someone to get while we all give up our comforts. However conservation is always a good thing,we are already taxed for that.Think about it.

I must save a lot as I dont have central heating or clothes dryer and telly - I cant afford any of them. I dont think we would save a lot as most of it comes for motor cars.

Good question.

Answer sadly no. well not on your own you wont.

We have solar panels on our roof for the hot water and I gave up my tumble dryer when i moved to my new house.
Sorry telly and central heating i'm not willing to give up just yet.

But if we all do our bit i'm sure it will help.

I don't have a specific answer for you but I do know I saw on the front cover of a green magazine at my mothers home the other day that was talking about that. I imagine the people at the website could give you more information. The link is: http://www.gaiam.com/realgoods/
Hope this helps.

It's only going to help if the majority joins in. If you want to do give up these things to save the environment, it will be so you feel good about it. The government are the only ones to set regulations on energy and since they haven't done so it only means every man for himself.

My dogs knows my sons name. I ask her to find Oskar and she runs to him. It's probably because he's only a toddler and I'm constantly saying his name, and were at home most of the day so she's hearing me call his name a lot :)

Wouldn't worry about global warming, the Chinese and Indians are doing their best to keep it going.

Keep yourself warm and comfy.

The whole thing is just a tax raising exercise anyway. The Oned Eyed Bandit will do anything to take your money from out of your pocket. He will see to it that you are always poor.
