I don't want to have just lettuce with dressing. Could you help me to add some more ingredients and toppings in my salad? I'd appreciate it!

Think of the best Salad Bar you have every been too. Need more ideas go to Sweet Tomatoes or 1 of the other salad restaurants. The list is endless. I made a fresh salad for lunch to day. It had Romaine & mixed Baby Greens, Artichoke Hearts(in water not oil), GrapeTomatoes, Cukes,Black Olives, Pickled Beets(raw beets are great too), Raw corn right off the cob, Black Beans(can 1tbs. rinsed) Sprouts(alfalfa). Yummmmyyy. Any veggie you like works, I also use Raw seeds(pumpkin, sunflower etc.) & Nuts. Some cooked can veggies & lots of fresh ones. If I made ovn roasted potatoe last night they'll show up in my slalad today. I stick with Romaine or Green Leaf as my base lettuces because they have the most nutrition & keep well.

If you start every dinner with a huge fresh salad (& keep your dressing low*) you will do incredible things for your health.

Here's a recipe idea:

Roasted Portobella Salad Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

* 3 - 4 portobella mushrooms, stems removed and sliced into strips
* 1-4 tsp salt
* dash pepper
* 1 tbsp olive oil plus 1 tbsp
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 red or yellow bell pepper, diced
* 2 bunches arugula or spinach
* lemon juice

PREPARATION:
In a small bowl, combine the mushrooms, salt, pepper and one tablespoon of olive oil, and gently toss to coat. Let stand at least 15 minutes.

In a large skillet, sautee the mushrooms, garlic and peppers for just a minute or two.

Remove from heat, and toss with the spinach or arugula. Drizzle with a bit of lemon juice and serve warm.

Suggestion: Sprinkle with a handful of sunflower seeds for a bit of protein and some crunchy texture and pair with a warm tomato basil soup with some whole grain toast.

This would make a nice, light complete meal. I hope this helps. Happy cooking.

I LOVE a fresh, green Salad... -Had one tonight, in fact! I make mine with crisp Romaine lettuse; diced onions & fresh mushrooms, diced yellow Bell Peppers; a couple small cut tomatos, AND half a thin cut Cucumber... Any one of the above ingredients is optional (in case you're not a fan of it). And you can also "bulk the Salad up" to make an actual MEAL out of it- by adding some tuna fish, or shredded chicken. Add your favorite Dressing- and you have one AWESOME Salad! Enjoy! :)

I prefer my salads to have a variety of greens like red leaf and romaine lettuces, spinach leaves, arugala, radiccio. Tomatoes, olives (either black or Kalamata), cucumber, thinly sliced onion, a sprinkle of parmasean or feta cheese. If I made croutons I'll thorw them in too. I'll make a light and simple vinagarette because I don't like a heavy dressing on my salads. You can also toss in bacon bits, crumbled egg, salad shrimp, or diced ham, chicken, or turkey.

I make large enough salads with some kind of meat protein to serve as dinner salads for me & hubby. I usually serve with garlic bread.

it is an extremely ordinary casserole, very hearty. 6 Potatoes 2 Cans Mushroom soup 2 Onions a million field Ritz Crackers 5 finished Lasagna Noodles a million %. of Spinach 2 Cups Shredded Cheese Slice up 6 Potatoes unfold on the backside of 14 X 8 casserole dish. Pour 2 cans of Mushroom soup, and unfold over potatoes. Slice Onions unfold over soup. Mash up crackers sprinkle a splash over onions. Now place the lasagna noodles over each and every thing. unfold the spinach, and then unfold cheese and sprinkle something of the crackers. finally bake at 350 for 55minutes. delight in!!! :D

-Spring greens, add romaine lettuce if you want an extra crunch
-Sliced avocadoes (best thing in the world)
-Dried berries
-Cherry tomatoes
-Red onions
-Corn
-Cucumbers
-Cashews or pine nuts
-Pecan
-Croûtons
-Basil
-Sliced eggs
-Cheese cut into strips (cheeder/swiss/gruyere/mozarella)
-Turkey/chicken/bacon/tuna salad (since you eat meat)

Any combo from above is great...

Dressing:
-Balsamic vinegarette
-Lemon vinegarette
-Italian dressing
-Thousand island dressing
-Pesto
-Honey dijon mustard
-Blue cheese
-Ranch dressing

Just some suggestions... you can squirt some lemon on top of the avocado... makes it really good.

I don't know if a salad is a good choice for dinner everyday. A salad is usually a starter, not a main course. But, if that is your choice, here is a good salad:

Iceberg lettuce
Chopped tomato
Chopped green pepper
Chopped green onion
Chopped apple
Thinly sliced radishes
Salad dressing of your choice
Optional: Small cubes of cheddar cheese

You need not be a vegetarian to eat vegetables or fruits. Eat a vegetable salad (tomato, carrot, beet, cucumber, beans etc. add flavor and variety to salad. Fruit salad is also good.

Olives
Banana Peppers
Tofu
Feta cheese
toasted bread crumbs
croutons

And the list goes on.

Cube up your stale bread, drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper, onion and garlic powder and toast in oven or fry pan. No more stale bread, and delicious croutons for your salad. Just a tip for you.
