I believe they are referring to sentient living things, aka creatures that think and can feel.

Hi. I don't think any of my family has said "I don't eat living things" But i do know that my mom and sisters say we don't
eat anything that once had a face. It is deffinatly different than plants beacuse animals have to be raised and then slaughtered for consumption. But plants are grown, so yes that makes them alive, but not in the way that a "plant" might have been someones friend or pet or something like that.
So when u hear someone say that ,, u probably just misunderstand the person.

This is true--plants are living--so when a vegetarian says they are not eating living things they are incorrect. However, I believe vegetarians/vegans do not deeply consider what they mean when they say this, most people just assume they mean that they don't eat animals. Also, some vegetarians/vegans may think it sounds more humane to say that they don't eat living things and they want to think of themselves as saving lives (which they are). Still, I see your point and I'll make sure that I never say that myself.

For various reasons they become vegetarians. Most Hindu's are vegetarians. Besides not eating any animal products they often refrain from eating eggs and anything that contains lard. Also there are those semi-vegetarians who abstain from eating meat but they may eat fish. Some vegetarians eat only plant life as their conscience dictates that all life as a soul is within animals. Then there are others who believe it is much more healthier to be vegetarians.

Vegetarians/vegans do not eat any type of animal flesh. Because many people don't think of fish as meat, it gets very tedious saying they don't eat meat. This is just a way of getting the point across without the debate.

I don't eat animals. Some people might use the terms "living things" and "animals" interchangeably without thinking. But I guess "living things" usually does refer to animals even though plants are also alive.

I don't think I have ever said "I don't eat living things."

So whats your beef? Pun intended.

Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products. There are variations that admit dairy products, eggs and/or products from animal labor such as honey.[1] Many vegetarians also choose to avoid wearing clothing that has involved the death of animals, such as leather and fur.

Veganism in comparison, excludes all animal products from diet and in some definitions from attire also,[2] whether or not the production of clothing or items has involved the actual death of an animal (dairy, eggs, honey, wool, silk, down feathers, etc.).

A generic term for both Vegetarianism and Veganism as well as for similar diets is "Plant-based diets".[5]

The reasons for choosing Vegetarianism, beyond simple personal choice, may be related with moral, religious, cultural, ethical, aesthetic, environmental, social, economic or political convictions, as well as with health concerns.

Plants are no longer living once they are severed from their source of life sustaining whatever.

When I eat animals, they are dead.

Was it Hanibal Lechter that told you he eats living things, coz I saw him eat Ray Liotta's brain.

BTW, you can talk to plants. Try it.

Plants are living, but they don't feel pain or have a nervous system like animals.

I'm not a Vegetarian, but I know that much.

We actually mean 'sentient things'. Yes plants are living and those who say they aren't are just confused about the definition of 'living'.
