Do research on the organization. PETA has quite a few skeletons in their closet. Like being a friend of ALF and ELF, two FBI recognized domestic terrorist groups. They also like to terrorize children. It's one of their 'things'. Also, see if anyone who has anything to do with the meat business will allow her to take a trip and see their company. Like a farm who raises cattle to be slaughtered or a chicken house. From working at some of these places, I know for a fact that the animals are being kept happy and healthy. I know abuse does sometimes happen in these companies, like all companies, but most of the time, it doesn't. And, as a whole, the ways that the animals are killed are also humane.
If she is still a vegan after all of this, then that just might be her choice. Some people just can't stand the idea of killing an animal and eating the meat. But, this way at least you know it's her choice and not her being brainwashed by PETA's lies.

If your sister feels strongly about adopting a Vegan life style you shouldn't ty to "convince her to be normal again", it's a choice that is hers to make. Likewise she should not try to impress her beliefs upon you.
I went through a year or so where I was a vegetarian (no meat, no eggs but I still ate cheese and drank milk) and it wasn't because I became a PETA finactic or anything along those lines, it was just because the very thought of meat made me ill. I also had trouble dining in restraunts where I could smell the food cooking in the kitchen. For me those feelings passed after a while. I don't currently abstain from eating meat but I can tell you that if anyone had tried to convince me to eat meat before I was ready to it would have irrated me just enough to have refused to eat meat just that much longer.

Just because she doesn't want to eat meat doesn't mean she isn't normal. If you really cared about your sister, you'd want to make sure she could be a vegan heatlhfully (which she can).and ask where she could buy foods she wants to eat. Or you could ask if there are other groups with similar information.
I'm no fan of PETA--I dislike their tactics immensely--but that's no reason to tar all veg*ans with the same brush. There are plenty of pro-veg organizations that truly do care about the animals. The Humane Society of the U.S. is one of them.

Give your sister a break Seamus! As long as the whole family doesn't go vegan it is a win win for you and Sarah. More meat for you and she gets to see if the diet works for her. Now if the meals change...it might need to be revisited:) Also I thought Peta was People Eating Tasty Animals!

Your sister is likely at an age that PETA targets with their ads. It's psychological manipulatiion and that has an impact on impressionable minds that "react" rather than "think it through". They aren't much different than the propaganda Nazi's employed by Joseph Goebbels. It really isn't. PETA just bends ad strategies to advance their own agendas.
As mentioned, most of that stuff isn't even filmed or photographed in First World countries, or countries where laws re: animal abuse are enforced.
You are not going to convince her. Your parents may be able to do so. But getting "tricked" by PETA crap is just part of being young and stupid. We've all been there.
I also would agree re: the comment of animals being executed by PETA after being rescued in New Orleans. I was there. What happened was when their "shelters" and they had damn few of them compared to other legitimate animal rescue organizations-- were full, they killed the animals they couldn't shelter.
Other organizations offered to take the animals, but PETA was too proud to give them up. So they killed them. Many of us were absolutely sick. It was just needless killing. Some of whose missionw as to rescue people would drive PETA away and rescued animals as well even though it wasn't our job. We turned them over to the legitimate animal rescue units.

Just let it go Seamus. Your sister will get through this phase and go back to normal; or she will make this a lifestyle choice. Either way, dear, it is her body and her choice. It really is a terrible thing that happens to animals. I am not a vegetarian any longer and when I was I ate seafood and fish. No chicken or red meat. I was a lot healthier back then too! Nana

Your sister is normal. Choosing a diet that is healthy and a lifestyle that allows her to live her principles is normal. What the schools should be disallowing is all that "nutrition education" propaganda from the dairy and meat industries; they are glorified advertisement at best and brainwashing at worst.

Start slipping meat products into her meals, leave rotting fruit and veg in her bedroom. Wear more leather and fur, watch National Geographic, find web sites that show how freaked-out those PETA folk are, tell her Tom Cruise belongs to PETA. Start eating PETA members.

this is her own choice you can tell her everything bad about being a vegan but you can't force her to do any thing. This is her choice and you should respect it no matter what it you want peace with her.

I agree with you
IT will be very hard for you to intervene.
The truthful reality of the Human animal is almost lost for the city folk in the free world and city life where simple milk is in cardboard or plastic and requires NO physical work.
As for peta and others.. They PLAY on the real life of having to slaughter the basic foods that for millions of years have been our survival..
No one ever said butchering the food was glamorous.
But Jesus was a fisherman and for sure HE gutted many fish.
and as a carpenter must have enjoyed a roast leg of lamb and a mug of wine.
Some religions are extreme in the rational ,,others express great respect,, even to applying human respect as the JEWS.
they require the seperation of dairy and meat EVEN to requiring seperate tools, pots and pans
but that were also adopted for health reasons.
In regions, even today, without refrigeration, spoilage is a serious health problem.
As for your sister
She was shocked by the gross, bias and wrongful presentation of the EXTREAM bad practices.
peta has it's own Bad actions with the disposal of stray pets and NO solutions.. JUST more complaints.
The world's requirement 38 million tons of of beef a year.
PLUS, chickens, turkeys, pork, fish, and other sea food(etc)
good luck don't give it too much attention
use this
It is your choice don't bother me with your nonsense....
