Whenever I draw in a really long breath or deep breath I get a sharp pain on the left side of my chest, near my heart. Is it just growing pains, or should I get it checked out? I wouldn't normally care but its been going on for a few months or years now, can't remember.

See if any of these sound familiar.

1. Costochondritis. Inflammation of the cartilage where your ribs and breatbone meet. Hurts worse when you breathe.

2. Pleurisy. Inflammation of the lining around the lungs. Hurts worse when you breathe. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pleurisy/DS00244

3. GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. This can cause an inflamed esophagus, which can theoretically cause pain in the area you mention. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gerd/DS00967

4. A hiatal hernia. This occurs when part of your stomach protrudes into your chest cavity. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hiatal-hernia/DS00099

This article lists some good causes of chest pain: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chest-pain/DS00016

A respiratory infection may also be possible, but if you've had the pain for months or years, it's less likely. Of course, if you're concerned your pain may be cardiac in nature, a simple physician visit can help determine that.

The chest pain sounds very much like 'muscular skeletal' but you'd best get to the doctors for a check up.
BUT..i can't see any reason why chest pain should have anything to do with constipation..???
do yourself a favour and go to the doctors...tell him/her everything and get yourself checked out.

go doctor or NHS DIRECT on 0845 46 47 they are 24/7 help on phone
by the way go doc and aks if MS or pulled chest muscle. my mum has muscle pain, its more like MS but she has many more symptoms like irritable bowel, PMS, meanapause, hormone imbalance, cyctitis, acidity,, indigestion and that all measn Lyme disease. u need a specialist for that but just for future reference. Hope its only chest pain, no more. get it checked. is it blood pressure?
dont over use muscles i.e. lift heavy stuff or lift heavy shopping bags etc. has it happened after liftign something heavy? if so, u may have pulled it liek you would have pulle d ahamstring etc but this in chest not legs.

Probably a strained muscle from coughing or something, best to get it checked out though if it has been going on for a while

You really need to check with a doctor; odds are it's nothing, perhaps gas, perhaps some sort of upper respiratory infection but whatever it is, you do need to have it checked. Pain is your body telling you something is wrong.

Probably should get it looked at if it has been that long. Might be a pinched nerve or a fractured rib.

When u next go to the docs mention it.
As its been going on for months/years, u r still alive so it cant be that urgent.
