My friend is having a fancy dress party for her big old 15th yet doesnt know how to theme it. Shes thought of 'at the movies' and 'pirates and fairies'. What does everyone think? Its a mixed sex party, and probably rather childish and needs to be great fun. Any other themes you can think of? Best answer to the one we use.

I was at a gala a couple years ago where the theme was the Roaring 20's. Women wore slinky dresses and feather boas, and men wore zoot suits and fedoras. They had a blast!

I agree with the movie theme. The "martini's" that were mentioned previously, would be a great hit with the kids. They'd feel "grown up", but wouldn't have the nasty after effects the next day. If the "martini" idea doesn't appeal, go with the sparkling cider or grape juice in wine flutes. Drop a strawberry in, for a fun effect.

If you have a party supply store near you, you might be able to find little "gold statues" to hand out. Kind of like an Oscar or Emmy award. Speeches would be an optional thing. Kind of like a "roast" for the birthday girl.

Serve finger foods, like tea sandwiches, cookies, scones, fruit, chocolate covered strawberries (if you can afford it) and things like that. Crackers with some sort of cheese topping would be a good idea too.

If the statues are hollow, you could fill them with candy, like m&m's. Even at 15, kids still love m&m's. (Because they melt in your mouth, not in your hand. ;o) )

Now that you got my creative juices going again.... I might just do that for my daughter's 16th in May. Even though she said she doesn't want a party, I think it would be a lot of fun.

I think "at the movies" is a great idea. You could actually try to use a movie award show theme if everyone is dressed up. Maybe have a red carpet and get some martini glasses and make some non-alcoholic cocktails and some champagne glasses filled with sparkling white grape juice. Very grown up.
