On the last day, the Heavens and earth will be destroyed. They will be replaced by the new Heavens and earth, where God will once again dwell with his people, like Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden before they sinned.

I do not picture a physical dwelling or tent. What I do picture is a Heavenly Government or Kingdom that will have interaction with the subjects on earth. This is why Rev. also mentions two sheep folds - anointed in heaven and subjects on earth. When it speaks about no more tears or pain that makes sense to see that here on earth. Now things are quite different for most, dealing with Satan and the demons. They will meet their end to enable to earth to become truly peaceful and all to be worshippers of Jehovah the Most High. How wonderful to have the hope of living forever on earth. (Ps. 37:10, 11, 29; Rev. 21:1-5)

my understanding of it is that Jesus was sent down to earth, meaning God incarnated to reopen our thoughts of love and compasion to re invent this world that we messed up and turned into hell by our selfcentered ways by condoning killing of others and not giving to others.by turning our thoughts of hate for each other to love for one another we will so re establish the kingdom of God on earth.the old jerusalem that are fought over by the muslims, jews and christians, will turn into the new heavenly jerusalem where people will rather give than take.and it also has to do with quantum physics, whereby our thoughts determine our destiny.

I believe that at this time there will be a new Heaven and Earth, and that they will be together, as we will be with God. He shall be our God, and we shall be His people.
