Hi people. I left Nelson nz, for brisbane australia for a quick work conference last night (just got back to nz).
The city is stupid. What is wrong with it. All the houses are old and wooden and country like, yet there in a city. The traffic is horrendus. I went to the suburb called stones corner. Went for a quick lunch time walk in the park and nearly got mugged. At around 12 i had finished my quick morining conference, and before i got back on the plane to nz, i thought i would go for a drive up to redcliff.
Really nice place, violent people. WHat the hell! My work buddy and I were sitting on the red cliff jetty having some lunch and we got sworn at by some random kids!
People were throwing kids into the water off the edge of the jetty fully clothed and they werent playen around! Heaps of aboriginals drunk in the park. Hobo's drinking in the park. And then to airport to go home and held up in traffic nealy missing the flight!
WHo else hates brisbane!

Ok brisbane wasn't too bad. I just don't see how people can enjoy living there. There are no beaches, and yet it is Queensland! GOld coast is far better

Are you the same person who comes on here time after time to tell us that a hick town, Nelson, in New Zealand is so much better than anywhere in Australia? Now it's Brisbane's turn. As you never have a good word to say about anything in Australia I will take your complaint with a grain of salt. How does one "nearly get mugged"? Did someone look at you oddly? I presume you went to the police.
Brisbane is a lovely town and the old buildings give it character. They are also a delight to live in in the humid wet season. There are, however, many modern and new buildings as well. Brisbane people are warm and friendly. I don't live in Brisbane but I visit regularly.
There is a lot of Queensland that is not on the coast so doesn't have beaches, why do you find that so strange? Brisbane is on the Brisbane River, not on the beach.
Brisbane is a large modern city with all the amenities you would expect. Nelson New Zealand is a town of about 45,000 people (and 20million sheep I expect). That makes it the same size as Lismore in northern NSW. Nelson is a nice place but it is not and never will be a city in the same league as Brisbane.

Sounds like you had a bad trip to Brizzy. I've been there many times and can't say I've ever had any problems at all.
My brother and his wife moved to Brisbane about ten years ago for more opportunity, and lived at first in a small town outside the city. It was beautiful, but when they had kids they moved into suburban Brisbane and live in a lovely spot, very green, lots of trees and nice streets and neighbours.
A great friend of mine lives in southern Brisbane, and loves it. She has lived all around the world, and brought her hubby back from the US to live in Brisbane, and they wouldn't live anywhere else. In fact, her daughter and her daughter's English husband also live in Brisbane, they could have stayed in England but liked the Brisbane lifestyle better!
I guess if you go to any big city there are places where it's not quite as nice ~ a bit rougher, a bit poorer, perhaps concentrations of down and out people. Certainly Sydney has places like that, and I have been told by friends in Melbourne that it's best to avoid certain areas after dark, etc.
Maybe give Brisbane another chance one day ~ you could ask the Aussies hereon Y!A to recommend some fun places, and visit them. Maybe you'll find a better impression then!
Cheers :-)

Brilliant recreation for North; even I wasn't anticipating that one regardless of our variety. I'll be hoping Port win (if North get a dwelling last I'd a lot alternatively it's towards Carlton or Freo than Geelong) however I do not just like the probabilities.

Haha wow first answer needs to calm down!!
I was born in that lovely city. It was lovely when I lived there, my kindy was great and I remember going swimming at South Bank.
I agree, Australia is far more violent than NZ and I didn't feel safe there.
They have the warmer climate, but we've got the nicer people!!
EDIT- Elizabeth: Not personally.

Your spelling and grammar are 'horrendus'. Brisbane, on the other hand, is great.
