I would like to know the difference between the Glock 23 and 23C models in terms of:

1. Concealability (I have heard the c model is not as good for concealability...is this correct?).
2. Recoil
3. Price
4. Anything else of significance

Thanks!

The 23C is a compensated model with slits cut outs near the frontfront sight to allow the escape of gases when the gun is fired to reduce recoil and improve handling. This is much like the old MagnaPort system which is over two decades old. Peosonally, I would NOT buy a compensated gun, because of the distraction of the gases shooting up and the hightened muzzle flash. The difference in the price can be about $75,, between the reg. model 23, and the 23C.

Glock 23c

A Glock 23c or compensated model means there are two cut outs just before the front sight of the gun that help release the gas after shooting the weapon. Concealing the weapon has nothing to do with compensating it, recoil is much less than a non-compensated gun. In line of home defense, it is fine. The flash does not blind you at night or anything, I have shot it at night. Price is about the same give or take.
I own a Springfield Armory XD V-10 9mm which is their version of the "c" models for Glock. I love mine. Rapid fire shooting all in the x-ring. That barrel will not move unless I want it to. Oh and they are just fine to clean. Not much more than a regular Glock or XD. Picture is below at the following link....

Glock 23 C

I won't have a compensated gun for the reasons already mentioned. Also, if you are wrestling someone for possession of the gun and it goes off near your face it can blind you (of course, a regular Model 23 could do that also, but why compound the risk?).

If you're using your gun for nothing but target shooting or hunting (like the Taurus Raging Bull) a compensated gun is alright, but otherwise save about $75 and get the regular model. If you can't handle the recoil, then get a smaller caliber.

Both the 23 & 23c will conceal the same as they are the same gun except that the 'c' has slots cut at the front to let gas escape which also makes it lose a bit of power.

Best.

I own a 23C - It looks cool with the little "V" flame coming up, but it doesn't ruin the night vision.

I was told by my CCW instructor to get a normal 23 barrel for it if I were to use it for concealed carry.

His point was if fired in an odd position it is possible to vent the gasses towards your face or clothing.

The recoil is the same, but target acquisition time after firing has been reduced, meaning second shot is faster.

The 23 and 23C are identical in size, about $75 to $100 more for the "C".

If you had to use the 23C at night you would be blinded for a little while because of the muzzle flash coming up thru the ports. Even shooting a 23 will have a massive muzzle flash at night but it wouldn't blind you as bad as the C model. IF you are gonna use this gun for nothing more than target shooting or competition I would say it's worth the money, But for carry or home defense I would say no go and get the regular 23. If you are not familiar with the compensated muzzle flash. Search muzzle flash in yahoo images and it will give you a pretty good idea of what will be coming up thru the slide

1. Concealibility should be the same.
2. Recoil will be less for the 23c, how much is a matter of opinion
3. 23c will be more expensive
4. Compensated pistols collect more residue/fouling and therefore can be a pain to clean.

In my opinion, skip the 23c and get the 23.

Answers to your questions by reference of numbers.
1. not at all true, both are the same length, the "c" is slightly lighter.

2. the "c" will have slightly lower recoil since gases excaping are forced out the top, thus working against the normal recoil.

3. The "c" will be slightly higher, to compensate for them drilling the slots in the top of slide.

4. I would bersonally buy the normal 23, not the 23c. The reason for this is that I am a big fan of LaserMax internal laser sights. With "c" model guns, you cannot put an internal laser in the gun. This is just my opinion.
