Compared to the ideal, Religion is Not Natural.
To be told how to live as good people is an indication that we had fallen to a dismal depth where human against human atrocities became too common place.
Religion appeals to some who think it offers a better alternative.
Basically, we have to get back to our potential ... who knows ... maybe religion can help

No, following Jesus doesn't make you feel trapped-I can't speak for the other religions.
What you probably observed was people who were adjusting to their new way-and that can cause frustration and difficulty-it's tough to give up old habits. And since it's a personal journey, even people who have been Christian for a long time come to enlightenment at different times, so it grieves me to hear people judge them so harshly.
When you're not caught up with the pleasures of the world, you're freed from petty things and happier with the things you have, rather than wishing for more and more.

Religious paths guide people to freedom without sinning, guides people to their true inner truth and guides people to the universal teaching of God. Religious paths have God at the top followed by his messengers then us, part of the infinite soul. A religion can make a person feel trapped but a true religion does not. It does not force people but teaches and persuades people. Such is like the Rada Soami and the Baha i faith.

Goodness, no! Christianity is about freedom. If that is how people some Christians live they don't understand their own faith.
The problem is that people think religion is about following a set of rules. It's NOT! It's about having a relationship with a loving God.
What enslaves you is not religion, but other things which people tend to think are signs of 'freedom'. I can think of a few: money, sex, alcohol, drugs...
When I say this I don't mean they are 'wrong', just that if they take the place of God in your life, you won't be free. In my opinion there's nothing wrong with enjoying money, sex and wine in the right circumstances.

I'm a born-Muslim and though I'm an observant one, I've never been religious.
Being older and able to understand the concept behind Islam, I'm in fact thankful by the "guidelines" provided by the religion. It's reining me in, for I would have drunk myself to death and had sex with multiple partners (both aren't allowed in Islam) by now if not for my religion.

No actually real religion is actual freedom from bondage of the mind and the body and material attachments. That is real freedom. Others are in bondage and controled by their mind and senses grabbing at every desire that comes in their mind and that arises by their senses. That is not freedom that is utter bondage. Real religion helps on controll the mind and senses so one can be free of those miserable binding attachments that bring one life after life material body due to attachments. Thanks For info on this topic read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta asitis.com you can read it on line. The Book of actual freedom. Thank God I found this process of freedom.(Self realization)

Trapped perhaps... but far less trapped by sin before I found religion.
Matt. 11: 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
The burden I had in sin was far heavier than the yoke of Christ, which is easy in comparison.

I've often heard this, but I've not ever seen a person like that. Perhaps you can find a personal webpage for someone like that and post it for me here (or email).
Christianity is not based upon fear. Christianity is like being a child in a loving family. There is the authority of the parents and there is lots of love and forgiveness.

Quite the opposite - read the Bible. Try 1 John 4:17-21 for starters. When you're living your life the right way, there's no need to fear.
