I have got AOL broadband. Unfortunately it is not wirless. I want to update my ps3 but i cant seem to do it. I connected my ps3 to the router via ethernet cable and i signed onto my internet from my computer. Then i tried to update my ps3 but i get an error message saying, 'An error occurred during communication with the server. This is a DNS error (80710102)' Please can someone help me out.

if you are connecting via an ethernet cable and your ps3 on the home page select settings then system update then via internet. you may have to create a profile to access the internet if you have never connected via ps3 before.alternativelt connect via your pc go to playstation .com save file to memery card then insert memory card into ps3 and follow steps as earlie stated but select storage media instead of internet connection. i found full details on how to update via pc will be on playstation.com here they are

How do I update my PLAYSTATION®3 from a Memory Stick?
In order to update your PS3™ using a Memory Stick or other Storage Media you will need the following:

PLAYSTATION®3 system
SIXAXISTM wireless controller
A PC with Internet access
Storage media (Memory StickTM, SD Memory Card, CompactFlash®) or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive (At least 110 MB of free space is required).
Update data download procedure.


1. Create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data.
Using a PC, create a folder named "PS3" on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create another folder named "UPDATE". Please note that these folders must be named as shown, all in upper-case letters.



2. Download the update data from the PS3 website and save it in the UPDATE folder created in step 1.

PS3 System Update Procedure.

1. Insert the storage media or USB device that contains the system software update data into the PS3.

2. From the home menu, select Settings> System Update, and then press the X button.



3. Select [Update via Storage Media], and then press the X button. The system will then automatically search for and find the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.



4. The PS3 is now ready to install the selected update. Select [OK] and press the X button to install the update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the system software update.

Does your router support VPN?
As people hete told you - you can download an updates via your PC (memory cards, flash, PSP). Just make sure, that you download proper update. For example, for european PS3 - download updates from european Sony pages.

you need a computer with a modem and router i think..if you dont have a router still try this..go to your setting..and go down untill it says network settings.go to edit(thats where you find wi-fi and stuff)and go to easy...it will say wired or wireless go to wireless.and it will search for networks near you.if you have a password for your computer you will need that..if there is no password just click on the network you want and thats just about it...and it will ask you to test the internet connection i reccomend you do that to make sure it works
