Not that I'm defending deception in proselytizing (or proselytizing in general), but ">such and such bad person< does this" does NOT mean in and of itself that everyone who does that is bad.

You may be right to decry this practice, but your argument isn't sound.

edit: To the Christians saying "nuh uh!": Go to Korea sometime. Or for that matter, look at the Korean missionaries in Afghanistan. Korean Christians routinely approach people (or in the case of the missionaries, travel) under false pretenses in order to get a chance, or better yet, a semi-captive audience, to preach their religion. That's a pretty extreme example, but it happens everywhere to some degree, and it is only the extreme devotees who do this.

yeah. satan tempted Jesus in the desert. he used scripture to do so. that's why we need to know our bible. can't recall any christians on here twisting the bible though. it's been misinterpretted and taking out of context more than a time or two, but i really don't think i can recall it being used deceptively. sorry.

ian f- didn't know that. wanna know what's wierd? i can recall one time in my whole life, when i was twelve years old (and i was not christian at that time) being approached in a mall by a christian kid about my age. but for the two years i lived in st louis (and still, not christian at that time either), i was approached three times by scientologists who were out recruiting people, and that was only over a matter of a few months! no kidding. it's different for all of us, i guess.

I think that they aren't thinking about it in that perspective, but rather in a ends-justify-the-means type of mindset. I think that some Christians would find a different way of propagating their faith if they thought of things this way more often.
