On his first deployment the odds or pretty low, but with each deployment the odds go up and up. But I've known people who are on their 4th tours in Iraq and are still alive. But I've had a friend killed on his first tour. Just depends.

There is a pretty good chance of your husband getting sent to a war zone if he enlists in the army, because they need man power. It is not a 100% chance that he will end up in Iraq. People forget that there are soldiers in other places besides Iraq! My dad just got back from a one year tour of duty in Afghanistan , and no one he knew died. If you look at the numbers less than 5,000 soldiers have died. The likely hood of your husband dying is slim. More civilians are killed than soldiers! Think about how many soldiers have gone, and then you'll realize not that many have died!

dying: lower than you think. in 2005 alone, more people died in car related accidents close to home than had died * total *for the entire war (3 or so years) up to that point

as for deploying: 100%. EVERYBODY deploys, regardless of MOS. the thing to remember here is that Iraq isn't the only place to go. Afghanistan, Darfur, Haiti and a whole host of other spots are possible.

Depends on his job in the Army. If he joins a combat MOS, it is a 100 percent thing he will ship to Iraq (probably within 6-12 months of getting out of Basic Training). As far as dying, if he has a desk job he stands a lower chance, if he has a combat job, you're talking numbers which are in favor of him living, but likely to at least be injured physically or mentally.

I've been to Iraq, it isn't a pleasant place. Tell your husband to suck up his pride and join the Navy (where he probably won't go anywhere NEAR Iraq)

Dying, not high. Getting a post in Iraq, quite high.

My advice is - Don't enlist!! You might be sacrificing your time and possibly your lives for unworthy reasons and for an illegal occupation. Now is not the time to join any military branch. You need to become much more politically aware of the times you are in if you're thinking of joining now. Last spring at the Arab Summit, the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia stated during his speech that the occupation was "illigitimate". Made headlines here in Europe... Why not in the United States?? And, who, on this good Earth, would know better than the Saudis??

Hope for the best for you and your hubby, truly.

Well its well known that less educated people die first in war, goes with not being able to read the "WARNING BOOBY TRAPS" sign or "DANGER MINEFIELD" or "DO NOT POST DUMB QUESTIONS ON Y/A" because you might get killed or wounded.

Try using the "spell check" or buy a good English Dictionary, that's right, I said "English", because whether you know it or not the American language was derived from English, but now with lots of Spanish words added.

Confused?? well then you should have paid more attention in class.

Pretty good chance-they now send them on extended tours to Iraq, and if they make it they still might get sent back again. Don't do it-I was in at the time of Vietnam, and this is a whole lot worse!

They estimate that over 800 more Americans will be killed,15,000 will loose limbs, have brain injuries or sever burns before Bush leaves the white house,If they were fighting to save America that would be one thing ,BUT...well check to see who is getting filthy rich on all the blood and suffering over there. Check for yourself

I'd say that joining the army whilst your country is engaged in conflict on at least two fronts increases your risk of dying quite a lot .....

It doesn't really matter where a persons at, or either be a civilian or a soldier. It can be anywhere, anyplace, anytime... . THINK!!! about DESTINY!!! WHEN A PERSON WAS BORN HIS DESTINY IS ALREADY WRITEN....... Just remember this and you will be alright... As long as your husband is in the service, chances are high of being shipped to any troubled parts of the world. Again, "destiny"------- it is very important to remember!!!
