Good question. I am a Christian, but I refuse to associate with "Christians" because that self righteous b.s. gets on my last nerve. Even someone such as myself who IS a Christians has to deal with those morons. I won't even set foot in a church because of that. Hey...treat others the way you wish to be treated (in other words don't go around hurting people), and that is all that really counts in any religion. The funny thing is that so many Christians can't seem to manage to do that. But to answer your question why...well, I think it boils down to an inferiority complex. For some reason to fill some need inside of them they have to feel superior, and they use religion as an outlet to do it. Think of people who are snobs, and love to flash around their material possessions to remind the world that they are BETTER. It is the same thing but the circumstances are different. But it isn't a religious thing though. Our faith teaches us that nobody is superior to anyone. As a Christian I have to say that not ALL Christians think they are superior, because I certainly don't. It is just rare to find one who isn't (they are NOT supposed to be that way). In the last thirty years I've known probably only five who aren't that way. I certainly understand why you would find it annoying. I do too.

Not ALL of us act like that. Some do adopt a self-righteous air, though, and others are just perceived that way from people on the outside.
Perhaps people perceive us as being "self-righteous" and thinking we're superior to everyone because...well, it's hard to explain. I don't want to sound like I'm trying to be judgemental. But WE believe that we've been found by God, and that we've found the way to heaven. And, once we've been found, God does work changes in us. We don't become sinless, but many of the bad habits we had just...disappear.
For example, since becoming a Christian, the only bad habit I still have is smoking.
So maybe it's for one of these reasons that people perceive us as thinking we're "superior" or being self-righteous. It's not our intention though, believe me on that.

there are some that probably do, and that is wrong- however as a Christian I can say that we should be the most humble people on earth, because to say that we are Christian means that we admitted and still do, that we are sinners in need of a Savior. We accepted Christ as FULL payment for our sin, and because He chose to die on the cross for us, we should be humbled- because we realize that it has nothing to do with us at all. We cannot save ourselves, so if we are walking around thinking we are better than anyone else, forgive us. When we share why we believe we are not saying that we are better than you, we are sharing our faith because we want others to know the Love of Christ.

The greatest cause of atheism in the world is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, and deny Him with their lifestyle.
Christians are not superior, only forgiven.

I guess it is because Jesus is on our side and we don't have to fear anything. Just Kidding. Christians don't act like that buddy. Please don't mix a persons personality with their religion. SOme people are always like that, that doesn't have anything to do with their religion.

Christians are told that they are the only ones who are getting to heaven and all others will be punished when they die.

From what I've witnessed most people act that way.
Christians do it becuase they think their way is right and want others to join in on it.
