What if one of your loved ones goes to hell, and you go to heaven? How can you enjoy yourself in heaven knowing that someone you love is burning in hell?

Man I didn't expect so many answers! Many of you say that you would not know if they went to hell or not, but you would know that they are not with you and that would be horrible in itself.

nope. couldn't be happy. and if god changed me enough so I would be happy I wouldn't actually be me anymore. He would have to take to much of me away.
Edit I just read back through these. I'm amazed. The overwhelming Christian attitude is "I got mine- to Hell with you" Literally. Things are worse than I thought.

I've always thought about what you just said, and I guess I can't enjoy myself knowing that a person I love is suffering. But then again I don't think that the feelings and emotions that we have now will be the same when we are in heaven or hell. The rules that govern this life are not the same that govern the after life.

That is a good question! But all I can tell you is what God says about that; Re 21:4 - He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
So somehow, someway...IF you are separated from a "loved one" you will either no longer remember them???
Whatever way God will be able to fufill this promise, given to us in Revelation! So the main thing to keep in mind is that IF your keeping your focus on God..He WILL keep His promises. Happiness dwells In Heaven alone!
Hope that helped?

The concept of "oblivion" holds that those in hell will cease to exist ... at least in the consciousness of those who are in heaven ... so no one in heaven will be tortured by the knowledge that a loved one is in hell.

Revelation 21:4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
That's about as clear as you can get, don't you think?
God hates sin, and anyone who does not receive His free gift is still full of sin in His eyes. A sinful soul can not live in the kingdom of a perfect God.

Seems like a pretty judgmental outlook. When one considers that we are there in the form of spirit, there must be further lessons we are to learn. Is not a time of laxity or lying around. Or, for looking for loved ones. Is a time for being enveloped in love, not negativity.

The best thing for you to do is of course to help him/her to go to heaven also. Is he/she a Christian already? If you could not let him believe about GOD and JESUS CHRIST then that is not a very good thing to cope with. You are in heaven and they ( or anyone of them)? It is really a very sad situation.

Tell them to make a reservation for you before they go. That way you can be together! You gotta be kidding! How do you know where they went? How do you know where you'll go? You can only hope.

well,
We all belong to the Creator and you have no control on the soul of your loved one.We came from Him and to Him is our return.
So,the love we have to our parents, family, friends already came from our Creator.Actually,i donot want to go deep b/c i may make mistake since this is a serious issue.
The bottomline is Everything depends on the Will of the Almighty.
(Sorry to know you are a******.)

I would know that it is not forever. When their time of punishment is over, they will be ready to join us. I first learned that there is not an eternal hell when I read this.
