I'm not putting down people who do, I just used it as an example. I have a college degree, but it hasn't worked out for me. Looks like I'm gonna have to give up and work at a place like that. Either that or a janitor.

Sometimes it's hard to come up with the job of your choice and it takes time and a lot of work to end up where you want to be. In the mean time, you have a chance to try all kinds of things. Everything you do is an experience that will teach you something. And then there is that part about eating regularly. I got hurt badly and my physically demanding, good paying job was gone. . .along with my health. I went to college and in the mean time I took all sorts of jobs to keep afloat. Was I embarrassed? No. I did find out who my good friends were. . .the ones that stuck by me. Once you get a job doing what you want, you will be doing it or something like it for a very long time. Use this time to your advantage. Try everything. . .And my experience was I earned a whole lot more money tending bar and waitressing plus I networked with many, many people and gained a lot of people skills. I just found a letter my dad wrote years ago to a fan and he told them it is no disgrace to lose as long as you played the game to the best of your ability. I think you can make that fit. . .good luck and don't forget to keep applying to get where you want to be. . .College doesn't guarantee anything except that you will be smarter. . .prove it. . .

Does it matter where you work as long as you're making an honest living? I have worked in restaurants before and it's a lot of hard work. I respect people who are trying to make it out there. In fact I do know some people who work two jobs and their second job is working at a fast food joint. I also know of a lady who started working at the McDonald's drive thru and she got into party planning there and now makes a 6 figure income. She was on Oprah years and years ago.
If somebody was 'ashamed' then I would say that they have a problem with themselves. Work where you wanna work I say. Do what you need to do to get by. That's the smart thing to do.

It's a way to make money and there's no shame in that. I worked there once when i was a teenager (it was actually my first job) and i didn't stay long. I just didn't like it but I didn't mind making money. Things sometimes don't work out and in this case your degree doesn't right now. Maybe McDonald's can be a temporary thing until it does work out.
Anyway, I would say there's no shame in it.

Well you need to bring in the money, don't you. I wouldn't be ashamed, you got to do what you got to do. But I'm pretty sure you can get a little better paying job than mcdonald's with a degree.

I think I would be. Even when I was 16, I didn't want to work there. It's not like I can think of anything embarassing about working there, but it is just a thought already in my head.
It would feel even worse if I had a college degree. But then I'd feel crappy having to take a job that I was over qualified for after all that hard work to get my degree.

Ask Kevin Spacey about his role in American Beauty when he takes a job at a local fast food joint. I could do that job if I had nothing else that I wanted in life. I have a masters degree and a fairly good job....I wouldn't work at Mickey D's though. Their uniforms are not appealing... and I like In-N-Out burgers much better.

Look for jobs outside the state or further your education, don't ever give up, volunteer in something related to your job sometimes that helps. If you need cash now tutor college students in an area you are strong in, that always pays well.

Yes, I would be ashamed. I mean, they don't even require a high school degree. You could at least get a job as a waiter and make some decent tips.
