I suppose they can have the same kinds of problems as any small appliance. Shorts in the electrical wiring, a bug in the programming of the computer, etc.

I actually have a rice cooker that a friend bought me as a gift and have yet to use it. I prefer cooking rice the traditional way to date anyway. If any problems occur with an electrical item there could be several causes. It is not a good quality one, electrical fault with plugs can caused them to get damaged, faulty wiring also, and not knowing how to use it properly. If you have one and it didn't work properly when you first bought it, return it with the receipt to the store.
