Army recruits people more and offeres more benifits because they have a bigger quota do meet. Marines+Air Force = Army. they are as big as both of them combind. they have to recruit more people.

I recently compared my experiences from Army Basic with a person that just completed Marine Boot Camp...

I can't really say that I was all that impressed compared to what I went through... in fact I was kind of shocked to hear how easy he made Marine Boot Camp sound. I really expected to hear something different.

Not sure if Boot camp isn't what it used to be or what....

Not trying to play the whole 'who is better' thing here but I really don't think there is that much of a difference any longer. And considering that more Army soldiers get Airborne and Air Assault qualified than there are Marines... that couple of extra weeks at Boot Camp doesn't really seem to be much of a factor either.

Both branches just have different roles - there isn't much of a difference, to be really and completely honest, if you just look at training.

The whole 'Marines go in first' thing just isn't true if you look at any recent conflicts. Airborne drops are just as common if not more common than amphibious landings.

The Marines hit first from water to land. The Army hits first from air to land. It's situational.

And if you really want to get technical - SEALS and Rangers are usually in before anyone else. So don't forget the Navy.

And if you really want to get even more technical - Green Berets are literally there sometimes years before everyone else. ;D

Despire being Army, I have to admit, Marines basic is harder. Plus their training is several weeks longer. That alone would add difficulty.

2) Marine training is 3 weeks longer because a Marines primary MOS is to be an infantry fighter. That means no matter what other job they become, they are first and always a Marine who should be capable of fighting under any condition.

3) Marines boots hit the ground first. They go in (usually for 6 months max) and "clean out the area" or "soften it up". The Army then goes in and occupies (1 year to 18 months max). Both jobs are extremly hard and no matter what someone might say, invasion or occuping, they're both equally difficult and dangerous.

4) I don't know the Marine drop out rate, but I would imagine it would be higher that Army. Once you're sworn into the army, its hard to get out, even in basic. The Marines, however, have no such obligation until AFTER training. For the Marines, if you don't want to be in boot camp, then they don't want you there. If you want to leave, they'll escort your *** to the door. That's why its "The Few, The Proud"

1. Marine Corps Boot Camp is commonly thought of as the most difficult.

2. Marine Corps Boot Camp is 3 weeks longer because it doesn't just teach you about the Marine Corps, it makes a Marine out of you!!

3. It depends entirely on the nature of the engagement. Sometimes Marine Corps... Sometimes Army... Typically special forces are "on the ground" long before the main troops.

4. The WASHOUT rate at MCRD-San Diego (they don't drop out... they can either make it or they can't... but they're not allowed to quit!) is between 28-30%. That number has held steady for years, according to the DI I spoke with when my son graduated. My son's platoon proved the number... of 110 who started boot in his platoon, they graduated 79.

About your additional comment... Yes, that's true. The perks for enlisting in the Army right now are pretty sweet. But in the end, a young man who earns the title Marine will know he's accomplished something pretty phenomenal. I have respect for all branches of our military, and have helped many young people enlist through our Joint Services Recruiting Office. I won't say anything bad about any of the branches... but I have a very special place in my heart for Marines. There's just something about the Title... and being part of the Marine Corps Family that does not exist in the other branches. (And my friends in other branches agree with me on that one...)

The Marines, they have to be a fighting machine to be able to handle any situation. They are the first to go into combat, followed by the Army.
Not to change the subject here but the military does a background check on every one wanting to serve our country.
I take it as a slap in the face "Bellamer"..There are men and women out there in the war front fighting for our country, freedom, and fighting for those who need our help.
Just because you see stories of the military doing bad things in the news, doesn't mean that the military is really like that. Its the same for police officers and any one who put their life on the line for others every day. There are good things that the military does that should be acknowledge but its seems that the news is biased.
I have love ones who are there right now, getting shot at every day by terrorists, they are defending what they believe in so you and other people who think the same way you do can bad mouth them.
You have no idea what it is like to be in the service so you have the luxury to call us what ever you please. If you ever see a veteran thank him by spitting in his/her face for sacrificing their life so you can walk around free to do what ever your ignorant *** feels like, because that's what you're doing is spitting in the face of every man and woman serving our country. Maybe you will like to spit on my face? I'm a veteran.

the MCRD is harder. It is longer because it is more comprehensive.
