NYU's Tisch School for the Performing Arts is highly selective, as part of the admissions process you must come and audition with two separate two-minute monologues. Yes, it is one of the best performing arts schools, but it is also very competitive to get in. You'll need an amazing-grade point average, varied extra-curricular activities, a killer essay, and knock 'em dead monologues. Not to mention of course, a whole lot of money for tuition. Hopefully you have expressed this interest early enough to get your activities, and grades in order. It is never too early to start looking for the pieces you plan on doing for your audition (Remember these people have pretty much seen everything, you have to try really hard to wow them).

Depending on where you're moving from, moving to NYC can be a real culture shock for some people so be prepared for that. If you really have your heart set on acting you should also be prepared for many rejections, small roles, and small pay checks in a very expensive city. Also, keep in mind that many aspiring actors remain just that, aspiring. I'm not saying all this to discourage you, just to prepare you.

The Actor's Guild does not provide you with jobs, for membership fees you will be able to obtain benefits like you would if you were working a regular 9-5 job for a constant employer.

You do not need a car in NYC.

I wish you all the best. Make sure that this is what you really want for yourself, it is a very difficult life. Look into other schools as well, do not just apply to NYU. Good luck!

NYU's Tisch school of the arts is the best acting program in the country. For theater it's the best. And for TV it's also the best. Professors there will give you all the information you need to pursue your dreams.
