My reading of the Bible for a long time was totally turned off by Sunday School material. They presented the same stories, over and over, and not in depth and most of the truthfulness and human-ness and imperfection of the people completely taken out. So many of them were presented as cardboard characters.
It also has been complicated by my ADD. It is such a smattering of history and messages that creating a coherent picture of it can be difficult.
I have read the New Testament, and much of the Old over the course of years. Leviticus, Numbers, and the Judges can get a bit sloggish.
EDIT: However, an important question is of understanding. Maybe this will sound terrible, but I'd rather talk to someone who read only Romans intelligently, than somebody who read the Bible over and over in a completely surface and or reactionary way. Much of every Bible story requires serious consideration of the changes of translation, the historical context, the context of passages surrounding the studied material (oh how easy it is to distort passages when they are removed from their context!), and their place within the entire work.

When I was younger I thought I was a Christian and except for at Sunday school I never really read the bible.
Then God showed me what a sinner I was and I repented and put my faith in Jesus Christ.
I then began to want to read the bible. I started out trying to read the entire Bible in a year. That turned out to be a two year project.
My commitment is to read God's word daily. As I grow in Christ I find this easier but I still become distracted by the world and forget to read some days. I pray that Christ will help me overcome my weakness and stay in his word so that I can grow in righteousness.

But you don't really care about my answer now do you because you are an Atheist. Be truthful now!!!

Over the years when I was Fundamentalist (and Christian) I had read the entire bible at least 3 times and several books far more times that that (my favorites had been Act, Hebrews, Ester, Luke, and the Kings). How can you be able to carry a conversation about the bible unless you're read it yourself?
The bible can be interesting, and if you read it through at least once, you'll stumble upon all kinds of interesting (and even weird) stories.

I used to be a Christian and I have read the Bible straight thru twice and have studied and taken Bible courses as well.
I would have to say that most Christians do read the Bible. Blessings!

i follow the daily lectionary (meaning my bible reading schedule is determined by the church), which consists of about four chapters per day, and goes in a twelve month cycle. i also try to read something from the synoptic gospels everyday, usually just a chapter though. along with that, sometimes i read by topic from luther's small catechism, where i read more scriptures, and sometimes the liturgy, which is primarily composed of fragments of the psalms, fit together differently and ended with the Gloria Patri... LOL
all in all, i'd say i probably read a total of about six or seven chapters of the bible for two or three days of the week, and four or so the rest of the time.

But at the end I'll get my reward and yes the bible is interesting if you read it, live it, and be lead by the Holy Spirit. GOD BLESS =)

I do. I don't see how you can be a Christian without reading the Bible.

I not only read it but I study it. I have read it from cover to cover three times and learn something new and more wonderful every time.
Have you ever read it?
