My daughter has a rash around her mouth, nose and appears to have swollen eyes. Her doctor says she's allergic to something she's eating. Has anyone had similar problems with their children and what did you do? I can't seem to find what food may be causing it and am beginning to wonder if she may be allergic to the plastic in her bottles. Has anyone heard of this?

My friend has an 18 month old that seems to be allergic to all kinds of things - the poor little thing always has a rash of some sort. I guess that allergy testing on children under 3 tends to be inconclusive and inaccurate, according to her doctor. So she was basically told just to monitor her foods, laundry detergents, soaps, shampoo's, etc...sadly, it's just really trial and error. Have you tried changing brands of bottles, just to see if it helps? I can see where plastics could be an issue...or it could just be a food or drink. Try to rule out possibilities by keeping certain things away from her for a couple of days at a time - it can take a day or two sometimes to get a reaction.

Hmmm. After reading some of the other suggestions above, they all seem logical. I was worried about my daughter when she kept breaking out, but it turned out to be a reaction to a mixture of her saliva and the milk that would dribble out of her mouth when she fell to sleep. So I made it a point to clean her up after each feeding.

But in this day and age, it could be anything from plastics to mild skin cleansing products. Acidic foods can be a problem, and make up... yep! Make up. I saw a case where a little boys aunt wore a lot of makeup and perfume. He had a rash everytime she gave him hugs and kisses.

We had a test done where they took a sample of my daughters blood to determine what types of alergies she may have. Turned out she has none as of yet... I say "Yet" because I believe the body changes about every 7 years or so.
