Too much and you run the risk of having a cat that bites rather than scratches. Has he scratched your son? Is the cat aggressive? I have yet to meet the cat that will walk up and scratch a child unprovoked. There are other options: You could be vigilant about keeping the cat's claws trimmed. You could give it to someone who won't mutilate for convenience, which is what you would be doing. You could invest in "Soft Paws" or some equivalent - they are soft gel covers for the cat's claws. You might simply supervise any contact between them. When I was raising Abyssinians, my adoption contract prohibited declawing, although I would consider revising the contract if the person had the first knuckle of his/her fingers and toes removed first.

Your cat may hate you. I have 2 snowshoe cats both adopted. 1 was declawed already and she has back problem, aggressive but I feel sorry for her. She even tries to scratch the scratching post and she has no claws. I wish her first owner would of NOT declawed her. Please don't declaw her. You can always adopted a declawed cat like I did.

Perhaps you could teach your son how to handle the cat in ways that don't lead to getting scratched. Lots of people with kids have cats and they can't all be declawed.
If you do find it necassary to find your cat a new home, please think of it as rehoming the cat rather than getting "rid of it".
If it is a good cat, and you put a little effort into it, you could find her a good home.

Not many places will do it and the prices range from 50 to 250 and that's if you can find a place that will do it. I was gonna do it to my cat and then I found out that that is the cruelest thing that you can do to a cat so I decided against. If it is a big problem I would just suggest giving your cat away.

DONT do that, its mutiliation, they actually REMOVE the first knuckle of each toe, its awful, its very painful, get his claws trimmed so they are blunt, teach your son to not torment the cat. Just DONT do it, if the cat gets out it cant defend itself from an attacker, its so wrong for so many reaons. I know vets who refuse to do this because it is so cruel and it can take a long time for the cat to heal afterwards.

I wouldn't do it. I had my beloved cat declawed and he developed kidney problems from it. Infection took over i guess. He lived only to be 6. It was awful. All because I thought it would save my house by having his claws RIPPED out. Shame on me. I will never do it again nor should you. He dies a horrible death from kidney failure brought on by the claws being removed.

It depends. But my brother declawed his cats and they immediately stopped using the litter box. My mom's siamese cats did the same thing. It might have something to do with tenderness in the wound areas in the hard litter. You might talk to your vet. Cats who stop using the litter box rarely start using one again, and end up needing new homes.

I don't know.
How much does it cost to have all of your fingers cut off at the first knuckle? Because that's the equivalent.
How much does it "cost," you ask. Who knows? But how much would you pay not to have your fingers pared back? I'm sure your cat feels the same.
Please do not mutilate your cat. There are other fine options that are not cruel.
