im from new york, and I moved down to houston, texas. In school they always make fun of NY...saying it's dirty, full of rats, oh...and here's the irony part. They make fun of our accents. As a true New York native, I manage to be strong...but what should I do?

It's a stereotype that people have about New Yorkers. Show them you, I'm sure you don’t match their idea of N.Y. They have accents as well. Educate them, and tell them that all of N.Y is not dirty etc. Just like anywhere around the world, you have your clean areas and your dirty areas. Then there’s the other way to handle it.... Texas is full of roaches, and I'm pretty sure they have rats there too. Oh and I'm sure all of Houston is not "clean". Anytime you have such a large population your bound to some unclean areas. Good luck and don’t get all worked up about it.

Because they've never been to New York. Once you go there -- you Love New York. The pace is fast but people are real and most are very nice.
