No the cysts shouldn't keep her out of the AF. I wouldn't even mention it if I was her. And the best part of her being on BC pills is that she can keep her periods to a mini mun. But that only be done with the pills are the same dose every month. Instead of taking the dummy pills just go into another pack, because having your period during training just sucks. She only needs 3-4 periods a year. So have her stock up before she leaves. But if she has to produce her medical records it still shouldn't be a problem at all.

Every answer above this is wrong. Every applicant is a case by case basis. It all depends on what type of cysts she has. The doctor at MEPS will review her medical history and decide whether or not she is qualifed. If the Doctor at MEPS DQ's her, it can be requested for the surgeon general to look at it as well. The fact that she has to take medication(even though its birth control) can be an issue. She needs to sit down with a recruiter and start the process. We do all kinds of medical waivers.

It's not normally a rejection... HOWEVER, the AF is drawing down its force right now and they might reject her because they don't need people. The AF just finished up its Force Shaping program where they allowed people to cancel their 4 and 6 year contracts after 1 or 2 years with no penalties. She might want to get a guaranteed job from the recruiter before signing on the dotted line!!!!

ehhh, it depends on what's causing the cysts, how persistent and re occurring they are and what complications may arise from having them. Bottom line is, though, her civilian doctor cannot make the decision, the med Board at MEPS does. she needs to submit every single scrap of paper relating to the diagnosis and treatment and send them up . they will either approve or they won't.
Bottom line: the AF grants few, if any waivers of any type right now. if she needs one, chances are fairly low that it would be granted, unless she smokes her ASVAB and truly impresses them in other ways.

I would tell her to ask her doctor to write a short statement about the severity of the medical condition (within her regular medical record) and bring a copy of those records for the MEPS physicians.

seriously, your best bet is to call a recruiter. you dont need to give any personal information. they have all the regualtions and newest ammendments to regulations. when you go to meps the physical is lengthy. im a male soldier and cant speak on the female physical, but i can guarantee it will be in depth. the worst answer you can get is no and that wont end your life. ask, its your only option.

It depends. "Ovarian cysts, persistent, clinically significant" are cause for medical disqualification for enlistment. MEPS physicians will review her records and decide if her condition disqualifies her or not.
