I bleached my hair from black to blonde (and it surprisingly didn't fry it horribly ) but the tips were too yellow for my taste, while i liked the light blonde my roots were. i bought a toner to tone down the yellow and try to even out the coloring.

well, it did just that, except i don't like the color it is now on me, it's a very pretty blonde in it's own right, it just doesn't suite my coloring. my question is can i re tone it, or do i have to get a pale blonde dye and do a strand test? i would like to avoid bleaching it untill my roots come in more.

thanks in advance.

i'm not asking your opinion on whether or not i should dye my own hair. i'm asking if i can retone withour bleaching it.

i've been dying my own hair for 5 years, blonde is a first and i just wanted to know about toning since i have little to no experience with it. not what happened to your room mates brothers, girlfriends best friends mom when she dyed her hair.

toner usually fades out but i would wait to put anything else on your hair. even with a strand test you are going to really damage your hair. if the color bothers you enough to turn your hair into a cotton ball go for it but i would wait at least a few weeks and then bleach it again. what happened was the roots grew out from the black so the bleach grabbed the lighter part of your hair and the ends were darker so they turned brassy. just be patient. hopefully you are not doing all this yourself.

You should never color your own hair!! My sister used to do and she had blonde hair. Once her hair turned orange. If you color your hair after it's already been colored your hair could turn out to be a disaster. My co-worker once colored her hair and then re did a few days later. She said she had holes on her head from where the hair had fallen out. This was the story she told me. My advice is to go to a real salon and get your colored. I go to a really excellent salon and pay good money to have my hair look good. I'm not rich either. My hairdresser can color hair and make it look wonderful on people. A hairdresser will tell you what hair colors will look good with your skin tone. Just get professional help before you destroy your hair for good!!!

speaking from own experience, let a Pro take care of your hair color correction and make sure to use reparing products to avoid more damage.
Also give your hair some rest but I am sure it's fixable.
