For one thing, there is no possible way to evidence God's existence. For another, even if there were a Hell, who would want to please a God that would send you there? Also, it was so depressing (when I was Christian) believing that I was innately, and incurably BAD that I just couldn't resist thinking about how ludicrous the idea of a "loving," Hell-creating God is. Lastly, the existence of any God at all is ridiculous enough in itself without all the doctrine, so that idea pushes the idea that one would even bother with us if it existed way over the top of possibility, in my opinion (sorry about the run-on sentence).
I guess one more thing would be the fact that I'm MUCH happier as an atheist. :)

The conception of God as described by the Abrahamic religions is really not tenable. The God of the Bible and the Koran is a morally reprehensible monster, worse than Hitler, Stalin, or any other human monster that has ever lived.
I tend to think it is POSSIBLE that there are spiritual dimensions beyond the material plane and that it is POSSIBLE there is life after death and/or reincarnation, but these are completely unprovable notions.
Most people believe in their particular religion because its what they have been taught and it is too difficult or uncomfortable to reject it.
The core beliefs of all religions would be labeled insane if only one person believed them, but when crazy notions are shared by many, we call it sacred.

Because I have witnessed no convincing reason why I should believe otherwise, but I can't see how there isn't something behind the universe. All I have witnessed is humanity's profound appetite for bulls**t. Thor, poseidon, baal, astrology...why now? Why should I believe you people this time?
When twenty people have twenty different answers to the same question they are usually all wrong. When six billion people have a multitude of different answers to the same question I become an agnostic.

I'm not really an atheist, so to speak. I believe in a greater power but its something personal, within myself and all around. However, thats as far as it goes.
I place my faith in just being a good person and living life as a decent human being. I'm that way because I don't see Angels or Demons flying around trying to taint people. I see other bad people trying to taint people. But thats about it, very simple.

I'm an agnostic. I actually wonder what gives atheists their sense of conviction in belief. Is it so very plausible that all the historically held beliefs of mankind are based on nothing at all?
Even if no one religion is correct, what makes you jump to the conclusion that that there is no God at all, or that there is not some kind of afterlife?
To say you know without doubt that God does not exist seems to be a premature decision. While no one can definitively prove God, but the same logic, no one can definitively disprove Him either.

It's the only rational belief, really. I believe that deities don't exist because I have never seen a shred of evidence that suggests otherwise.
Benjamin S, by your logic, no-one could logically disprove anything. We couldn't disprove Santa Claus. Yet, those who say "Santa is not real" are never questioned about stating something they cannot actually prove. The same should apply here.

Atheism is not a belief. It is a logical conclusion. Someone says there are supernatural entities, but upon investigation there is no evidence. Therefore, you conclude that the supernatural does not exist.
Since people have claimed that there is such a thing called "theos", those who say that there is no evidence for it came to be known as a-theists (without theos).

I'm an atheist because I have the brain capability to understand that the Bible god is illogical.
I'm only 11, and still have the cherished beleif of magic and fairytales. Sadly, this fantasy will disapate soon, and am almost brought to tears to think that this life is as fun as it gets. It's boring AND sad.

Because all religions have always seemed just as fake and made up to me as anything from a fantasy fiction novel/movie. And upon applying serious thought and reasoning to the claims of religion, I find that religions have even MORE plot holes, inconsistencies, and illogical things than any fiction story.
