I don't deny that some events of the Bible happened - in some form or another similar to whats been reported. I just reject what has historically been done in the name of the Bible.

I reject what the Churches have done to twist the message & the institutionalised violence and abuse done in the individuals and groups.

I would, and am always open to new things. I already think there are many historical facts in the Bible but I don't think anyone would be able to prove to me that:

1) We all descended from one single, solitary couple Adam and Eve.
2) Jesus walked on water, brought the dead back to life, healed blindness, etc...
3) The immaculate conception.
4) Universe "as we know it" created in 6 days
5) Universe is only 6000 years old.

And the list goes on. The problem is not the factual information in the Bible that can be proven using scientific methods, it's (1) The inconsistencies in the bible and (2) the miracles performed. How would one ever prove those? I have always said--we could sit here and go back and forth about whether religion is true or not. Religious people and atheists both have good arguments. The difference is an atheist doesn't have faith, meaning we (and pardon me for speaking for all of us) generally won't believe something unless we see it with our own eyes. Christians on the other hand, accept the bible as truth no matter what because the bible itself tells them to do so (along with parents, preachers, etc...).

In the end, from every person on this earth that I've talked to (religious or not), there is no way to prove or disprove the Bible. You either believe it or you don't.

You should turn that kind of question onto yourself, and ask if YOU would be willing to accept the Bible as fiction in the face of overwhelming evidence to that conclusion.
Science has given you a thousand times as much evidence as any reasonable person needs to accept the truth about the Bible. But you refuse to look seriously at the evidence with a clear and fearless mind.
If you had the courage to do that, you wouldn't be asking this kind of question; -- and you would go back to read that book in a fair and honest way, instead of looking for what you WANT to believe.
You'll never find truth if you think you already own it, and you'll never really own it if you feel obligated to believe any silly thing the book says.

If you could prove the Bible was real with empirical proof like faith-healing an amputee, I'd be willing to listen.

If you re-hash the old 'The Bible is the Word of God Because It Says It's the Word of God' argument for the billionth time, I'm definitely not willing to listen to it again *yawn*. I've had enough circular arguments to last my next three incarnations...

I know the bible is real, I have a copy of the KJV sitting right here on my bookshelf. To the best of my knowledge, it actually exists.

Now, if it's the validity of the *CONTENTS* of this book that you're talking about, sure I'll listen, but you'd better have some tremendously good proof, cause there's an awful lot of rather silly nonsense in written that book. As flava flav once said, show 'em whatcha got!

I don't think that anyone doubts that the Bible is real, anymore than anyone doubts that Tolstoy's "War and Peace," or Dickens' "Bleak House" is real.

The question is whether the information contained in the Bible has any probative or evidentiary value as to the existence of a deity.

By the way, why is it so difficult to make the plural of "atheist"?

Sure, I would be willing to thoughtfully and critically listen, but I would be skeptical because I have come across a lot of other people who claim to be able to prove the divinity of the Bible or the existence of their God but ended up just preaching dogma and proving nothing.

Sure. I've always said that if there is proof of the existence of god or proof that the bible is real then I'll believe. But that will never happen. No one will ever be able to prove or disprove these things.

I've listened to literally hundreds of attempts to "prove" that the Bible is "real". They've all fallen short. I don't think I'm going to hear anything new, but if you want to give it a shot, go ahead... but don't think you can stop me from responding with questions or objections.

>> What if someone could prove to you that the bible was NOT real......Would you be willing to listen?
& I'm not being disrespectful, just turning the tables.
