Is it real scratchy? Is fluid seeping out? A tell tell sign is that fluid will just drain. Also, look on the inside of the bottom eyelid, if it is red then you may have conjunctivitis (pink eye). One more thing, if you go to sleep and wake up and your eye is matted together by dried up matter then it is a strong possibility that you have pink eye.
It is very contagious, so it's easy to get if you are around somebody that has it. You could go to a drug store and get some over the counter medicine for it.

I got that a few times when I was younger. My eye would get very itchy & then swell... and I don't mean just the eyelids, I mean my actual eyeball would get red and the outer lining would get filled with fluid and my actual eyeball would swell. It was gross. For goodness sake, whatever you do, don't scratch your affected eye and then touch the other. If it is pinkeye, it will spread if you do.
Pinkeye is caused by bacteria. The bacteria can spread very easily. Like if you touch a doorknob that someone else with pinkeye has touched and then you rub your eye.
There is a chance it may be allergies, take an allergy pill tonight... If it's still swollen in the morning, call your doctor so he can see you and give you some medicine for it. If I remember correctly, the medicine I took was some kind of antibiotic in a ointment form. I was supposed to squeeze a line of it inside my bottom eyelid, then blink my eye to spread the medicine around... not a pleasant feeling, but better than the pinkeye feeling.
Good luck!

Pink eye usually goes away on its own, but you should still go to a doctor or something if you have the curiousity. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what causes pink eye, so sorry. You should go to a pharmacy and browse around the different eye drops as well, because there may be something that can help.

Pink eye normally are really red and very itchy. It feels almost like someone has either put sand in your eye or is rubbing your eye with sand paper. The best thing to do is go to a doctor and get medicated eye drops and then follow the instructions on them. Try to avoid shaking hands with others because it is very contagious

It's highly contagious and can be spread from one eye to the other simply by your pillowcase or facecloth. You'll know for sure you have pink eye if you wake up in the morning, and your eyelashes are completely stuck together, preventing you from being able to open your eye. wash your eye with warm water to rinse off the goop, and then see your doc..he'll give you drops for your eye that will clear it right up.

pink eye is a highy contagious eye infection that usually feels like you have sand or grit in your eye and is accompanied by a crust forming "gunk" and blood shot or "pink" eyes. if you have or supsect you have pink eye you should she a doctor who can prescribe drops that will clear it right up and in the mean time you should try to keep you hands and fingers away from your affected eye, refrain from wearing contact lenses, keep your eye area clean ( I've always thought flushing it with eye solution, but you have to be carefull not to contaiminate the bottle by touching it to your eye or eye area, and putting a damp wash cloth on the affected eye made me feel better.), and wash you hands regularly to help prevent "sharing" of the infection with others.

usually caused from touching your eye with dirty hands(e. coli is usually the culprit). Usually the eye is pink, swollen and has goopy secretions. A doctor can prescribe and antibiotic opthalmic cream. Make sure not to itch your eye, and especially, don't itch the other eye or it will spread. And if it is pink eye, its highly contagious! stay home
