I'm interested in a career were I'm not attached to a desk for 12 hours!! Working on computers I'm setting at a desk for hours. I recently got a job at a MAJOR media company and find the work to be boring and unimportant. I want a career were I can make a difference and see my work first hand. I was thinking about an architect but after the building is created, I'll be out of a job. Even though I've always been fascinated by the size and presence of large structures. Also a little recognition would not hurt.

P.S. I don't mind getting my hands dirty either. I was thinking about a construction manger, or a intelligence agent or U.S. Marshall. The work does not have to be physically challenging just fun and active.

What do you think?

In the IT field work is never done. You rarely see work 'completed' and its a lot of desk work.

I think you need that feeling of having 'created' something. Architects create but don't always get to see the finish (or even start) of their creation. However, construction managers and workers, painters, bakers, artists, hair stylists etc do see a 'finish'. I'd find the area you like (e.g. construction, design) and find those that have a completion around them.

You also may think about the medical field.

If found your need to be a hero interesting. I also wanted to 'save the day' and I think a job in the CIA, Marshall's, police great. But remember, you may never see the completion of all your hard work there, either (or rarely).
