When I was a kid, I watched so many movies and only got them on a concrete level. Now I watch so-called kids movies and I am blown away by the spiritual and philosphical messages they hold.
In Monsters Inc., Sully and Ed accidently discover that laughter is far more powerful than fear. What is your take on this?
**request- If you don't like someone's answer on this question, would you consider just passing it by without giving it a thumbs down? If you could, I would be most grateful. :)

Love and fear are polar opposites. Some believe that they are the only two emotions we have and all others stem from them.
Something to think about is whether our own religious/spiritual beliefs are based on fear or are they based on love.

Well, I saw the movie, hundreds of times!!!!!!
It was a favorite of my grand kids.
Yes of course laughter is one of the most powerful forces in the Universe.
Ask All doctors, nurses, Psychiatrists, Therapist.
They will tell you the best outlooks cause the fastest healing.
Even in terminal patients, Joy, eases pain, and makes death easier for them and their family to accept.
NO Mystery There, except where the joy comes from, and how it survives the trauma.
That is your real quest, not the laughter!

That laughter is better for us than fear is a secular concept, something science determined many years ago. Fear causes stress, which affects the immune system and heart, among other things. I really can't read anything religious into it.
However, I agree "Monsters, Inc." was a great little movie. I don't have kids, but I watch all the CGI movies because of the humor and heart in them. I still watch Bugs Bunny, too. I guess in some ways I never grew up.

Try watching a Japanese Anime called One Piece. I guarantee you would be blown away again. Anyway, Disney movies are usually designed for everyone to watch. Take Tarzan for example, it really shows you a lot about family like growing up, fatherhood, acceptance and a whole lot more.

In just about any movie of american production you will find some sort of message in it. Most of those movies are promoting america in some way. America certainly needs the promotion, being the most unpopular and hated country in the world.
Anyway, YOU can twist and control the messages a bit by talking with your kids about what they see.

It's one of my kids favorite movies. I haven't really thought of it on a religious level. I do however, love that is teaches that laughter is more powerful than fear. I'm not really seeing the religous implications of that......

Go back and watch the really old movies and the silent movies especially. Talk about being filled with subliminal messages!
