Atheists are closer to god you see. They always utter god saying that he is not there. So certainly they blame god for not allotting the chance to remember him in suffering/sorrow.

Humanity.
I don't think a lot of religious people feel the kind of compassion and empathy I and other atheists feel for people we don't even know. I'm not sure why, but it's a lot more intense. Whether that's why we're atheists or whether it's a product of atheism, I don't know. But humanity's suffered a lot over the ages, and I think it's time that stopped. Religion is the main cause... I don't know what the point of this question was, but there's my answer.

Lord is not capitilized except when it is Lord (name) and at the beginning of a sentence.

Why would I remember someone's imaginary friend when someone is suffering?

I have had many sorrows, they make you stronger, reality bites but it makes life worth living too. I look within myself for strength in times of sorrow.

I'm not sure what you're asking. To whom do I turn in times of sorrow?

Friends and family. Real, flesh-and-blood people.

I remember my friends and family who support me. I remember myself. I remember that time heals all wounds.

That has always been more than enough to get me through my tough times, some of which have been pretty bad.

I don't need your silly fairytales to keep me happy. Reality suits me just fine.

In times of anguish one tends to hope there is a higher power with a higher solution & this I believe has been the source point of faith in any religion.
One would do better to understand his mind.

I remember the thousands of innocents slain in the flood, various god ordained wars, gnostics killed, and other heretics that the early church wiped out. (yes, innocents being the children and babies). My problems just fade away after that.
